Default HMX85 vs HM195 vs HMX195

I have obtained pricing on some HD sets that I have been considering and would appreciate any feedback. I met with a local dealer today, and received the following prices:

- 52HMX85 with stand: 2800.00
- 56HM195 with stand: 3200.00
- 62HMX195 with stand: 3800.00

He was very hot on the newer 195s because he says they are the future of HD. I expressed concern about the lack of 1080p content and the reluctance of providers to deliver content because of the major increases in bandwidth required (according to comments I have seen in these forums and elsewhere).

I have even seen comments that the picture on the 195s is not as good as a 46HMX. On the other hand, the prices he quoted on the 195s are incredible based on information I have read.

So the question is, should I spend the extra $400 for a larger screen and get the extra (as yet unusable) capability? or should I stick with the reasonable deal on the highly regarded 52HMX85?

Thanks for any and all comments.

Wow $3200 on the 195 sounds like a pretty good deal. MRSP on the Toshiba website was $3999 a couple of weeks ago, and now it's $4999

PEITL what about the 62HMX85? Bigger screen should be a smaller price with the 1080p models coming out? Did you get a price on that?

Dude those prices are UNREAL!
A respected member of AVS forum said Toshiba's MSRP is 25% above dealer cost.
If the MSRP on the 62HMX195 is $5000, and you are saying you could negotiate it at $3800 (+ tax) that means the dealer is making 1% on the TV? That doesn't seem realistic...

If your pricing is accurate, I'd seriously consider the 56HM195 for $400 more than the 52HMX85. You will get a larger and better picture. Interestingly, because of bottom mount speakers on the 195, the 56" TV will be 6" narrower than the 52" TV (51.75" w versus 58.375" w).

Johnny Canuck, the MSRP's on the Toshiba website were cranked up last week. I know on the 72mx195 I ordered it was $5999 MSRP for the longest time and then last week they changed it to $6999. But, they have not changed the pricing to the dealer so they must be just giving the dealer the ability to discount or get more margin while they can.

I know I've gotten more than 25% off of the new MSRP.

Went to my local dealer as he had the 56 and 62xx195 in stock.

I setup both Toshiba tv on movie and low bulb setting, he only had the rogers hdtv demo channel running through his hd component distribution system.

On bright scenes the toshiba picture quality was excelent. bright, clear, and sharp. Colors was as accurate as the Sony KDSR60XBR1.

But when the camera was panning on the crowd the stupid much music demo I could see a slight blurr and a little bit of noise in the picture compared to the Sony 60xbr(was on pro mode). Maybe I was standing too close I was 7 to 8' away. In my family room I will be 13' away from the front of the screen with the 72"

Iam not sure if a better hdtv signal would not show this flaw. The much music demo is crap at times dark scenes outside the building is not sharp and the audio cuts outs.

He wants me to install a antenna at his shop and house.

Also on the darker scenes the Sony had better depth, deeper colors and smoother picture.

Overall the Sony video processing is better and the colors are a bit more vibrant.

Because Jvc has their heads up xss and has no idea of cost and when they will get stock of there 1080p, Iam still going to get the 72 as he said they expect the 72" anytime now maybe by month end.

For the cost of the Toshiba 72, with stand and symbio hd recorder the value cannot be beat.

Just bought the 56HM195 at dealer cost through my best friend, site unseen. I couldn't see paying $300 more for the 50" Samsung and the JVC 1080p isn't even out yet($$$). Sony is beautiful but I hate paying for the name.

I am going from a 9 year old 32" RCA CRT to this so I am sure I will love it. I have AVIA home theater calibration disc so that should make help me set it up.

I have been getting mixed reviews on game consol lag, anyone have any real world experience with this??

How is the contrast ratio also? I have heard the new xHD4 DLP chip is supposed to be awesome. 5000:1 or so. What do you think??

Let's hear from people who actually have the ****195 models in their own homes with it at least semi calibrated (not bright as hell store set up) and proper signals. (not split HD or worse split cable)

What are our thoughts and opinions? Thanks

CanadianZ

PS Not here yet. I am picking it up on Monday and just want to hear what other people think.

Man, I think I'm going to hold off on pulling the trigger until I see the HP 65" DLP and the Sony SXRD. I'm not sold on the Toshiba yet but I haven't ruled it out either.

I would love to have the HP, it is the only 1080p TV so far to allow 1080p inout via HDMI. The Sony won't. I think the price is going to be extreme though. Where can you get HP on the island?? (i see you are from Comox, I am in Nanaimo)

Well according to HP the MSRP is $5624.99. The sad thing is they don't know what resellers will carry the TV. I heard Best Buy is going to but I'm not sure.

I saw the 56HM195 and wasn't impressed with the PQ as I thought the 56HM85 was just as good.

Not mention that HP is not a TV company so you really have to wait and see what the reviews are before buying. It could be great but you never know.

I'd still wait until more people have it in their homes and any "odd" things start to show up like the sync problems with the new Sammy's.
