Probably a misprint, Toronto game supposed to be in the HD slot. Great for Leaf's fans, sucks for anyone else.

Well, I live in Ottawa, and the only Leafs games I get to see are HNIC, so I'm VERY THANKFUL that the CBC chooses to show the biggest market team in the country as their feature game. How could they not?

Angry Boooooooo

The ONLY HD games that are shown on HNIC are the Leafs ones... And, stupid me, I thought CBC stood for CANADIAN Broadcasting Corp., NOT Toronto Broadcasting Corp., nor Leafs TV... I guess people at CBC are not aware that there are more that just 1 NHL team in Canada, or that people want to watch HD hockey in Canadian cities other than Toronto... What about doing a few games in Montreal, Edmonton, Vancouver, etc.? Noooooo...

This is what my TAX dollars are paying for??

Would you like to see your tax dollars go up so CBC can purchase HD trucks and the HD equipment for Montreal, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver and Ottawa? There will be other HD games this year and the years to come.

There are reasons why the Leafs are the main team on Saturday nights. They're in the eastern time zone and draw the biggest television numbers (there are Leaf fans across the country). For HD, the ACC was built for HD, the HD truck is here along with a Toronto HD television channel. It makes sense to do HD for the largest market and biggest television draw first.

Like it or not, the CBC isn't TVO. Some of their funding comes from commercials. Guess when CBC gets the most $$$ during HNIC? So unless you'd like to see the CBC become a REAL public broadcaster ala TVO, drop the commercials and try to make up the smaller funding through either membership recruitment drives or worse RAISE taxes, you should think a bit before getting all bent out of shape.

Yeah I'm a Leafs fan but I do sometimes watch the second game and it would be nice for that to be in HD as well but be realistic here...

HD TRUCKS are exacly that.. TRUCKS! They CAN be moved to different locations..... No need to buy additional ones. Move the ones we've got to different cities everyonce in a while.... Trucks are a wonderful invention! They have wheels and all. Take football, for example. In the US, ABC does Monday Night Football every week, from a different location. ABC is based in New York. Yet, they don't only broadcast Giants games, do they? And NO, they don't need to have 10 HD trucks to broadcast 1 game per week. Why can't CBC broadcast a few games from Toronto, then Montreal, etc.? Is the price of gas that high???

Montreal is also in the eastearn timezone, and is also a large NHL market. There are probably as many, if not more, Habs fans across the country. You say that it makes sense to do the Toronto ones FIRST. Perhaps. But, then, in HNIC's case, its Toronto FIRST, SECOND, THIRD, up to the last one. Not a SINGLE game will be broadcasted outside Toronto. Count them: 0.

Realistic? I don't think that the concept "Toronto is the center of the universe and pays for everything" is realistic. Do you???

As for the financial aspects: Other than commercials (sponsers from all over the country), CBC's funding, my friend, comes from my Quebec as* tax dollars as much as yours, so explain the blatant disrespect for the hockey tax-paying-fans outside Toronto.

I think it is you who should think a bit before telling me that all of this is absolutely normal.

Man is there a night when Toronto isn't in HD and another game is?? Except I guess for Dec. 17th which some of you say may be a misprint.. I hope it is it would be nice to get another Ottawa game in HD..

Maybe Next year they'll get another HD truck yes but I don't like waiting...

It will be interesting to see which playoff games they decide to do in HD...

What are you talking about? Did you even look at the schedule?

Nov 12, 2005 Toronto at Montreal
Dec 27, 2005 Toronto at Pittsburgh
Dec 31, 2005 Toronto at New Jersey
Jan 7, 2006 Toronto at Edmonton
Jan 21, 2006 Toronto at Ottawa
Mar 18, 2006 Toronto at New York
Mar 25, 2006 Toronto at Montreal
Apr 8, 2006 Toronto at Philadelphia

8 games NOT at the ACC. Still, its sickening to know even when they do mobilize the truck, its only to follow the Leafs.

Sorry. What I meant was not a SINGLE HD game not showing TORONTO vs. <insert other team here>

TORONTO vs. someone. TORONTO vs. someone. TORONTO vs. someone. What about Montreal vs Boston or Calgary vs Colorado or even Ottawa vs Oilers? Why only TORONTO vs. someone??? Why don't we just change HNIC's name to Leafs TV or Hockey Night in Toronto... Sickening.

Even TSN is showing Los Angeles vs Detroit in HD, later this month. Two US-based teams!

I hate the Leafs as much as the next guy, but CBC is right in this case. The Leafs are their largest market and it makes sense for them to use their first truck for Toronto. Considering that a few months ago the official word was CBC was planning no HD at all, I think it's still a big step forward to have the early game in HD.

As much as possible we need to affirm to CBC that their efforts are very important to us and we'd like them to continue to grow in HD. If no one lets them know that HD is important and/or they only get negative feedback, what will that do to their decision to expand? Be rational and be patient; we'll get there eventually.

I know everyone here is arguiing about why only Leaf games are in HD on CBC. I'm wondering why not ALL Leaf games are in the HD every other day of the week!!!

Not really. The general assumption is that's a mistake on the guide. Doesn't make sense that the later timeslot is TO game NOT in HD when all the others are TO games in HD. They likely mistakenly switched the timeslots for those games and the TO game is actually in HD not the EDM @ VAN game.

Thanks for changing the title of the thread. It's too bad that that is what it is but at least it is a little better description now.
