any chance of CTV applying for a license change for MTV, so they can air some MTV programming? MTV has one show that I like in the US, and of course it's not available here.

I would guess that would be their intention.
Its likely CHUM/MuchMusic would fight it every step of the way. |

I suspect that CTV will ask to have category 8 programs added (8a-music and dance other than 8b or 8c, 8b-music video clips, 8c-music video programs) I think 10-15% would be fair and uncomptetitive with Chum.I did some looking and theres lots of other channels that are allowed to air music videos that currently don't. (CTV Travel,BBC Kids,BBC Canada to name a few)
By the way MTV will premiere the new trash talking show "Yo Momma" with Wilmer Valderrama on Monday April 3 at 7pm.One hour after the premiere in the US.(Atleast according to several online program grids) Last edited by TJ77; 2006-04-01 at 10:26 AM. |

I think with regards to the repeating of shows, they honestly don't expect the same person to be watching all day long. Much like repetitive news channels. So they figure the person who tunes in to watch MTV Live at 4am isn't the same person tuning in at 12pm. Silly, I know... but with 70% cancon they don't have much of a choice.
According to the licence that someone posted a few pages back it looks like TalkTV's licence was only renewed a year or two ago. Chances are they won't try to appeal to the CRTC until their renewal date comes up.... especially with CHUM breathing down their necks. I've run into a problem MTV and my PVR however. They're airing many shows as 1/2 hour back to back new episodes. e.g. Sweet Sixteen @ 12P on Saturday and 1230P on Saturday. I each to record all episodes "in this time slot". However it seems to only keep the one on the 1/2 hour when I check back? I don't want to select all episodes at any time since they in 3 - 5 time slots per week and they will most likely conflict with other recordings at this time. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any way to fix it aside from setting manual recordings? |

I think what kmacp is saying is true.As far as the licence, an amendment request can be filed at anytime ,but Chum wouls have a fit.The addition of category 7 (drama, animation, comedy, movies etc) would also be nice.G4techtv is currently attempting to add category 7.
