Default Glitch in "VCR recording"

I discovered a glitch in the "VCR recording" feature in the
Motorola DCT 2500 (Digital Cable Receiver) cable box. I'm using
Shaw in Lower Mainland of BC.

I set the Cable box to record at 12:30am channel 87.
I turn it off before the recording time. (I also tell my VCR
to tape it at that same time). At 12:30am the cable box
turns itself on and goes to channel 87 (GSN). Everything
works fine. Both picture and sound working.

The glitch occurs if I press any key on the cable box remote
control while it's recording. What happens is a small "Mute" word
appears at the top of the screen and the sound cuts off.
How do I bring the sound back on?
I even tried "Continue action, Cancel recording". I then changed
channel and played with many menu settings but still no sound!

The only way I found to un-mute the sound is to turn the cable
box OFF and ON again. Note, that this "Mute" problem only occurs
if the cable box has turned itself ON on its own and I press a key
while it's "VCR Recording". If the cable box was on already, pressing
any key won't mute the sound.

Has anyone else noticed this? What could be causing it to mute?

I'm sending a copy of this problem to service tech.

Tony

I still don't have a answer as to why this occurs. The Motorola DCT 2500
isn't suppose to have a mute fuction, so why does it have one?
