Looks like an error in the writeup. The "recording" part is "missing" from the following link...

The RDR-GX300 features DVD+RW/-RW/-R DVD Format Recording Compatibility, Precision Cinema Progressive(TM) 480P for Playback, and a User Friendly Graphic User Interface.
Same here:

I believe you'll not find a 480P stand-alone DVD recorder. This is also because "commercial" DVDs are encoded as 480i, not 480P, therefore even if you could get the 480P to the HDD, you couldn't archive it to the DVD itself.

Wow, you are right..The Brick is the only one. I apologize if I misled anyone..I guess the Brick needs to update there information as it is mentioned several times that it both records and playback in 480p!

Sorry.

I assumed you can record 480p on a DVD but 57 brought up a good point which I didn't even consider.

The dvd spec may not even allow it to do that. I know commercial DVD's are encoded 480i.

I wonder if it is possible or not?

Actually you can record 480P, 720P or even 1080i (or P?) to a DVD, using a computer. They are, after all, just bits, the higher resolutions simply take more space. This part of the discussion is regarding stand-alone DVD players, as HTPCs are a different ballgame altogether.

Of course you can burn it as data however I was referring to making it a compliant DVD.

So I guess my rephrased question.

Can a compliant DVD be created with mpeg2 compression at 480p and be read on most DVD players?

Default Pulling video off of PVR

Aside from running the video through a DVD recorder, is there anyway to pull video off of the PVR, i.e. the USB port?

What do you mean about encrypted? I have not opened the 9200 (9220) box yet. Are you guys saying that you can't record programs from the hard drive to a DVD recorder or a VHS tape? If this is the case then I am taking it back and will get a Sony RDR-H715 DVD RECORDER with the hard drive.

One other question for a current 9200 owner. Can you confirm on screen or in the 9200 manual.....what type of signal can be output from the component output. Is it the same as the 6100 (1080i, 720P, 480P, this is my understanding about the 6100) component output. I was hoping to be able to make dvd's from the 9200 component output (hoping it outputs from the tuner and the HD) connected to the Sony 715 component input. I do not yet know if the Sony component input will accept a 480P signal (maybe not). This is all very frustrating and I can't believe or understand the reason for no S-Video output on the 9200. If they want to block and stop us from having a copy of anything .......then I may just quit BELL or any other provider that feels that this is the type of service I will pay for.

Thanks
No one is going to make it easy to record HD out to any other media. The industry is doing all it can to prevent this. If you buy a DVD recorder it will only record in SD, and you will find programming a lot harder.
