Default Rm-32lz50 Lcd

I purchased this 32" LCD from FS last night and was wondering if anyone had any good/bad experiences with it. It's my first HDTV. I went with LCD because of the small size(small room)/good PQ, energy efficiency. The salesman recommend LG over a few other sets in the same price range. It's being delivered Wednesday and I'm extremely excited.

I received this TV the other day and so far I'm quite pleased with it. I've got the Rogers SA3250 hooked up and am blown away by HD. I've watched a couple of Jays games and "Prison Break" in HD and loved the PQ on both. I've got the SA3250 set up to "upconvert 1" so it converts SD to 480p and everything HD to 1080i. The SD quality is hit/miss but most channels its pretty good. I'm using the DVI hookup for the HD terminal and it's working well. I've got my JVC DVD player(not progressive scan) hooked into the component 2 input which is 480i and it looks good. Overall, I think I'm gonna keep this TV but I've still got a few weeks to decide. Looking forward to see some NFL HD. I find there is a bit of motion blur on high speed action but it's not too bothersome. The response time on the TV is 12ms which I think is decent.

Just thought that I would mention that this LCD has fallen $700 in price since I bought it. It is now down to $1999. Luckily I'm still within my 30 day window so I've gotten the price reductions from FS. Can't wait to watch my Browns in HD on Sunday.

Default Researching 32" LCD for bedroom set

Hi Hoju,

Glad to hear good things about this set. How well does this set upscale standard def. to it's native resolution. Are you still happy with it after watching the Browns.

In my experience, most of these panels will look amazing with high def, but we still watch a lot of SD stuff and the upscaling is important.

Thanks

The SD looks decent, not great. SD which is upconverted on an HD channel looks good but if you're watching an SD channel it's just OK. As you said, HD looks spectacular, i'm very happy with it. The beauty of HD makes up for any crappy looking SD.

Default returned this unit

I purchased this TV in early December from Future Shop and returned it back 2 weeks later. Why? For $1799+tax (approx. $2065) this LCD TV was more like a 32" LCD monitor, very limited features, very limited connections, and decent quality. And that is what got me with this TV, the picture quality was very comparable with the Sony, Panasonic and Sharp units and the price was fantastic, not to mention 2 years warranty.

Only after looking outside the world of Future Shop/Best Buy, I found that there are some really great units out there with amazing features.

I ended purchasing another LG unit, the 32LX1D, which I received a price of $2199+tax, which was $400 more than the RM-32LZ50 at Future Shop. The 32LX1D has so many features and the picture quality is much better than then the Sony XBR units.

For $400 more than the LG RM-32LX50 unit, $1000 less than the 32" Sony XBR LCD unit, and same price as the Panasonic 32" Viera unit, the LG 32LX1D had these noticable feature improvements:

XD Engine /w S-IPS technology gives you amazing HD picture quality, with great looking SD picture quality. And not to mention, 178 degree angle viewable (and its true). This is far more superior than the Farouja DCDi on the RM-32LX50 unit.

1x HDMI and 2x Composite connections that handle 1080i/720p/480p/480i resolutions, compared to a DVI connection and one composite connection (/w 1080i/720p) on the RM-32LX50 unit.

Black Levels, they were terrible on the RM-32LX50 unit, I mean terrible, so snowy and white. On the 32LX1D, black levels look black, honestly, it looks just like on the XBR.

ATSC tuner, I can't wait to get this going with OTA and cancel Rogers. For now, I'm still testing which is better, but I have Rogers cable feed going straight into the unit, and also have the 8300HD running on HDMI. So far I've noticed that SD channels look better on the internal tuner with the rogers feed than they do with the 8300HD on hdmi. Now only if I can catch Rogers HD channels on the internal tuner with the rogers feed, I would drop my cable box; maybe this will happen when Rogers supports CableCARD. The TV Guide is also amazing, shows up in high resolution ( i believe 1080i ).

So, TV Guide and CableCARD are some other features that this TV supports.

Response time for the LCD panel is 8ms ( I think thats grey to grey), contrast is 1200:1, and makes much of a difference compared to the RM-32LX50. The 32LX1D unit is much more brighter and also has more menu features to set sharpness, brightness, contrast and more.

To wrap this up, I'm glad that I paid an extra $400 and got the 32LX1D. Far more features and the picture quality in HD is far more noticable improvement from the RM-32LZ50 and the SD picture quality with the built-in tuner is great. I would recommed this unit to anyone.

Nice review SurrealCivic. I agree the features and connections on the RM-32LZ50 are limited. I'm somewhat suprised you had issues with the brightness, as I sometimes feel its almost too bright. Glad you're happy with your tv, LG does make great LCDs.

The issues with the brightness that were the most inconvenient were that when I was watching a movie, the in between the scenes (black), looked really really bad, it looks like it was illuminated white.

Now this week, i'm thinking that the 32" is going to be too small for my new house. But the living room isn't too large, and the viewing distance is going to be 9 to 10 feet. I'm thinking of upgrading to a 37", the LG DU-37LZ55. but i'm not sure.. anyone have any thoughts?
