The 8000 is NOT hd compatible..I got word today they WILL be releasing the 3100HD model towards the end of November early Decemer..It will retail for about $800 as oppose to $650 for the 8000...You can only buy no rentals available at this time

Huh? The 3100HD has been available from Rogers Toronto for $600 ($500 with a programming credit). I'm surprised at the $800 Videotron number, unless the first sentence contains a typo and you meant to say 8000HD instead of 3100HD?

I'm surprised that they will not let you rent...People are a lot less likely to fork over $800 than rent for $20-30 per month.

I just got off the phone with a techie at Videotron who knew infinitely more than the customer service people. Right now the only HDTV hardware that Videotron has is the 3100HD. They apparently ordered 1000 of them and 1000 of the non-HDTV SA8000. The official launch date for selling them and advertising is November 18. This explains why the Customer Service people don't know about it yet.

He said that there are a few 3100HD's and SA8000's still available but that most were already gone. This is strange given the fact that they haven't announced anything yet.

He said that they plan to launch the SA8000 HD PVR in "three to four months".

He said that there would be seven HDTV channels - VCC1, VCC2, TMN, ABC, NBC, CBS and he thought PBS. They won't be dedicated channels, you will just watch them on your regular channel and when an HDTV simulcast comes through there you go!

I'm still looking for more information

when an HDTV simulcast comes through there you go what? to a different channel? or are they just to simulcast the NTSC channel on non HD programs - as opposed to Rogers - who have the Detroit feeds where the station does the upconverting of NTSC?
