As a side note the 9200 allows me to record an OTA channel plus two satellite channels all at the same time. I can also watch a previously recorded event while this is happening. Total of 28 HD channels from ExpressVu plus 7 OTA !!! |

salsationn, here's an omnibus answer to your questions about OTA: go back and read my post just like I've gone back and read yours. You will find that I happily (smiley included) provided a link to a post that will either answer most or all of your questions about OTA or point you to where that info is readily available here at DHC. This will save me lots of typing to answer your questions.
Just another thought: when you say something like ...you don't need an ATSC tuner... it doesn't cost anything to add a few more words of context like ...because you already have one... and then it will sound clearer and better informed. Please keep your quotes of other posts down to minimal size too and Hugh will be happy. |

When it comes to HDMI, do the KDFE's only come with 1 HDMI slot? The reason why I'm asking is that I'm guessing you need one slot for the Rogers HD Box and one slot for your DVD player. Having not seen the back of a KDFE TV, I don't know how many slots they have. If there's only 1, what do you guys recommend doing, hooking up the DVD player via HDMI or the Cable box?

That is easy. Why would you use HDMI for DVD (unless you have some prototype of Blue Ray DVD). The best one can give you only 480p so no brainer here.

For all of you guys willing to do some investigation before buying KDEF50A10 here is the link to the TV's manual:
http://media-server.amazon.com/exec/...czMDkyLnBkZg== I did some searching and found some US stores (they ship to Canada). They sell this model for little more than US$1,700 which is less than CAD2,000. Any advice for or against buying this way: http://www.mpsuperstore.com/Electronics/discr185843.htm http://www.electrodiscounts.com/Elec...discr26266.htm Last edited by calexicoca; 2005-11-07 at 10:11 PM. |

some things to note
1) shipping would be brutal 2) duty would be very high as well 3) if the online retailer uses UPS (which I would imagine they would) then you'd end up paying a 'brokerage' fee which would cost at least $200 on top of the duties etc. I have no idea how the warrantee would translate either.

Another very good site to find the best US prices is the following: http://www.activeshopper.com
With shipping, you can buy that set for $168US which is $1944 canadian but you have to remember that there could be other charges such as custom fees, or brokerage fees and I'm not sure the warranty is valid in Canada. I'd check with Sony first. |

There should be no duty charges as the television is manufactured in North America. You will pay HST, GST, S&H, plus if UPS or FedEx is the courier you will likey pay brokerage fees.

But some DVD players output in HDMI such as the Samsung 850.

The OPPO OPDV971H 720p/1080i upconverting DVD player is the one that's been getting all the rave reviews. I have not seen one.
