The "Sony week" at FS is a joke. I went to the Coquitlam Town Centre store yesterday afternoon and it was a non-event. I thought there would be some Sony reps who knew the product, but it was just the usual pushy, unknowledgeable FS reps, with no emphasis on the Sony products. The rep I spoke to tried to sell me the Tosh 52HMX85 at 3199, but would give me a "deal" - half price on the Shaw HD STB! He also didn't know much about the Tosh set.

Leeder has their own on-site technicians and don't push any extended warranties on you. I believe they have their own 3 year extended warranty, although I'd have to double check. My family has been buying TV's from them for years and have one only 1 problem which Leeder corrected in no time.

As for FS, I also went to the "Sony Event" yesterday and talked to the Sony rep. All he kept mentioning was that he did a training session over the phone the night before and was trying to remember all the details. Needless to say, I wasn't impressed with him at all! The guy at Leeder was great, he had answers to all my questions and even hooked up a 50" A10 besides a 50" Samsung DLP to give a true comparison.

When I'm ready to pull the trigger, I think I'm going with Leeder in Newmarket.

Has anyone (especially in the Lower Mainland) tried out the ATSC tuner on the 50" A10? The Sony salesman told me that it has a built-in antenna and I would not require an external antenna to receive OTA broadcasts. I live in the Westwood Plateau area of Coquitlam and wonder what, if any stations I would be able to receive using the ATSC tuner alone (or even with an indoor antenna).

I bought my 50A10 2549.98$ from Futureshop, got it last week-end. I live in Montreal, and tried the ATSC tuner. GOt CBC and Radio-Canada in Hd without any antenna but the reception was stronger when connected a regular VHF/Uhf small indoor antenna ( the cheap kind you find at RadioShak)

the HD reception for your tuner will depend of signal strenght in your area..

Berenger,

Did you get a price match for your 50" as that is a great price! Or did you get some sort of employee price?

I just got this week's Best Buy flyer, and they have the 50A10 on sale for $2,874.

I negotiate using the price I got form BB and The brick and the4 fact that the clerk wanted me to buy it from futureshop I got mine for 2598 minus a special 50$ dicount coupon that the clerk has in his pocket.. I think that was an In house promo. and it's not emplyee price.

Well now with the new KFE A10 models coming out, the price of the KDFE's seem to be dropping.. Best Buy has the 50" A10 on for $2,699. Sears has the new KFE on for $2,499 (KFE's don't have the built-in tuner).

Sorry, I am not familiar with the different types of tuners and their capabilities - will I be okay if I have a Starchoice HD receiver?

Thanks.

When Bell Canada launches their cable service via phone lines (ITV) mid-late 2006, they will be using Cable Cards. I wonder if it's worth getting the KDFE just to have the ability to use CC's if Bell's cable service is cheaper/superior when it launches?

Yeah I was wondering about this too. Given the low number of installed CC slots in Canada, presumably Bell would offer some kind of set top box. Same for any other company using CC. That said, could you be wishing a couple of years from now that you had spend the extra couple hundred for internal CC? It would be too late to make the decision then.

Default Bit the bullet

Well, I was going to wait until Boxing Day to get my KDFE50A10, but I just couldn't pass up the deal I got today from Best Buy. I got this set for $2500. The sales guy told me that they were aware of Sears' promotion this weekend on the soon-to-be-released KFE50A10 (sans ATSC, CableCard Slot, and maybe even without the VGA input) and they were price-matching with their KDF. I also got their 5yr extended warranty for $430.

I went to the Sony Store (in the same mall as Best Buy) and the best deal they were going to give me was $3199 and throwing in a $100 gift certificate. Seemed the guy didn't want to deal on this TV (obvious by his unwillingness to budge).

Now it's on to the BEV 9200, figuring out my sat cabelling, and getting some good cables from monoprice!!

This is the best deal I have seen so far. May I ask you for a scan of a receipt please. Also which BB was that one? (Markham?).

Thanks

WHAT?!!!! He said he lives in or near Newmarket ON in an earlier post. Today anyone in the GTA/905 belt area has loads of free HDTV programming options with their ATSC tuner. You have some reading to do, salsationn...

http://www.digitalhomecanada.com/for...31&postcount=1

By the end of 2006 it has been estimated that about 70% of Canadian consumers will have access to ATSC broadcasts. In the following years all Canadian and U.S. OTA television stations will convert to ATSC. If anyone tells you that you do not need an ATSC tuner, tell them that you would rather have more viewing options, not less.
