As far as Canadian media sources I just can't stand the CBC with there "Toronto Star Commentary" with that one woman.

They are totally anti-Conservative, Vote Liberal! Lefty news source.

I am a supporter of Harper and the Conservatives and the way some of our news sources turn into the Conservatives did something that will end the world as we know it.

I am a Canwest media guy for my stuff. I find them the most balanced.

As far as TV and Internet sources, media IS dangerous (no for my amazing poetic explanation).

With tons of media sources on the Internet and TV, and newspapers/magazines people can listen to there own views.

Consider this with online blogs people can get there news and personal spins on it from people who have the same mind-set.

People who are religous and Republican goto FOX. Secular, anti-religion, liberal type people goto MSNBC. Moderate liberals goto CNN. Liberal party supporters goto CBC, and so on.

There is a news source for each type of person with there personal mindsets.

THIS IS DANGEROUS. People will only listen to views on thier own opinions. This means people will just keep on getting more and more conservative and more and more liberal (not parties but mindsets). People will not accept anything else but their view.

Me I admit I am a FOX News guy, because I am Christian, conservative views, Conservative party. But I try to stop because I am going to become too closed minded to other views.

Same dangerous thing with Al-Jazeera people who are "like that" will eat up there own mind set.

I don't know how you fix that, but its dangerous.

It's free on the Galaxy 25 satellite at 97 degrees West. You will need a FTA system with at least 30'' Dish and linear LNB.
BTW, the channel is nothing too edgy. Boring CNN like style mostly covering third world countries.

You can also watch it, for a small monthly fee for Real Player Premium service, on their website.

I subscribed to it for a month and also found it a bit dull. I don't think it's going to turn anyone into a terrorist.

Default CRTC To Approve Al-Jazeera English

According to an article at cartt.ca the CRTC will approve Al-Jazeera English sometime this week. I'm sure Rogers and others will add this one soon.

Question

Are you sure about that?

Not to get to polical but adding that service considering whats going on presently with "war/fighting issues" with the Canadian Military, it might be somewhat "risky" for Rogers to do that?

Well this is not the Al-Jazeera from the Middle East, this is an English International version that likely wouldn't need any censorship. Even the Jewish groups aren't opposed to it according to the article.

i was told that Al-Jazzera English/International blacks out any hate speech that airs on the middle-eastern feed, as a requirement of its license. Can anyone else confirm this, or am i mistaken?

if this IS true, then i have no objections to Al-Jazeera English arriving in Canada.

I have watched Al-Jazeera English before via satellite (true FTA) from Galaxy 19 (97w). It was pretty low-key and the reporting appeared fair and balanced. Reminded me of BBC World service.

I presume this is the channel that was approved for carriage in Canada.

They applied for carriage in February of this year. Can't believe its taken the CRTC nine months to make a decision!

Well, it took them about 3 years to approve HDNet so nothing surprises me.

If the comment by Ringtailed Fox is true then the service should be delayed indefinately. Perhaps a few of us like our propaganda delivered in a more subtle form.

For those looking it's also on the free Livestation app so there's no need to pay for the Real Player gold service. Livestation also has BBC World news service as well other english feeds of public broadcasters incl. DW from Germany.

Of course the CBC hasn't upped anything...

AJE is very similar to CNNi or BBCWN, no hate speech, no propaganda, just news from another part of the world.
