Default XM2go

The Myfi is my third XM radio and by far the best for my lifestyle. I can use it in the car, home, walking and traveling.
I am sure it will be available when CSR-XM rolls out it's Canadian operation so will not comment on the price.

Instead of a whole new thread, just wondering people's experience with reception in Calgary right now?

Ideally after research, i'd have an Xm2Go unit to use on the commute, use at the office, and have at home.

Home: Have a window thats facing south but being a split level house, its low..like ground level. Will antenna work being at ground level like that?

Commute: I assume that I should be driving around town with an antenna, and not experince too much loss?

Work:Window office with no tall buildings south of me to obstruct (I'm on 9th Ave), facing ESE. Would likely use an antenna too.

Thanks for any experiences you have in Calgary.

Reception is good in Calgary, I have the Roady 2 that I use in car and at home. The home antenna faces SE from a ground level window, elevation angle is around 30 degrees. I do get signal drop-outs on Glenmore at Mcleod Tr, but just a few seconds worth. Get the home kit to use at your office and there should be good signal. When the repeater comes online (I believe on the Palliser building downtown), I would expect no more drop-outs.

I'm sure repeater installation will a very high priority for the major cities over the next few months.

Thumbs up Nov 9th: Back on

The Ottawa XM repeater is back on the air today. It has a much lower bit error rate from my office so maybe it is their new 24/7 repeater ?

Default Almonte/Ottawa

Becks,

I commute from Almonte to the Gatineau everday and XM works great. At the moment, I am listening to XM from my office using the indoor home antenna beside a south facing window. It is low-e glass so the sat signal cannot get through but the repeater is strong enough to make a useful signal at a BER of 2.5%. At home I get no repeater signal but full sat signal and a BER of 0.0%. Now here is the important one...at the Tims and Home Depot on Baseline, I can use my Myfi indoors when the repeater is on...coffee, hardware and XM

So your office is in Gatineau? I'm just wondering the range of the repeater. I have XM and Sirius and both work great in the car, but I'm wondering about in-office reception using the repeater.

I'm curious, for the MyFi, what sort of antenna is required to receive the groud transmiters? I check every day in Toronto and get nothing. I even tried right at King and Bay and got nothing either.. Does it need to have the headphones hooked up and the wire serves as an antenna?

Default Myfi

The internal antenna for the Myfi is a patch antenna built into the top of the radio. You do not have to add any other antenna to receive the repeater other than the built in. The repeaters may not be on yet in Toronto. I have heard that the Montreal repeaters are also up and operational.

To check, go to the "aim aiming" sub menu and see if there is a terrestial signal. Today I was able to listen to XM while in a supermarket. I got ZERO sat signal but a good terrestial signal.
