First - Name based recording.

Second - Dual tuner recording.

And obviously have any bugs fixed.

Bug fix before anything..... Get them working on fixing the current stuff before adding new features.

But let's see a searchable guide then followed by name recording.

DD- Is this Poll really going to make it to Motorola/Starchoice?

Cheers

I would like to be able to output 480i over the DVI connection. My DVD player can do 480i over HDMI.

I know 480i is not in the DVI specs, but some DVD players are now able to do it.

With 480i over DVI, I could use the better de-interlacing, scaling and noise reduction algorithms for standard SD signals of my outboard scaler.

Exemple: combo Aloglith Mosquito + Algolith Dragonfly, using the new Realta HQV chip. Will bring a standard SD signal near HD quality. This scaler can accept 480i over HDMI/DVI.

My only option to do this now with the530 is to SDI mod my 530. But I would prefer using 480i directly over DVI.

What is the point of the UP/Down button stopping at Locked out channels? - very annoying while trying to channel surf! I read that older SC receivers do not exhibit this bad habit.

Hey DD i think you missed one, how about a 7 day epg. this would help out in setting up timers and recording.

Just create a Favorites List....I did and just called it SUB. I went through and filtered everything out I don't sub to...

The problem is that even if you create a Favourites List, the UP/DOWN button stops at channels not subscribed to

You have to use the "Favorites" key to scroll up the channels but yes, it would be nice if it worked the same way the 300/400 series did.

I have not purchased the unit yet (waiting until the bugs gets sorted out and waiting to see what *C will do with their HD lineup), but for me, these would be a big benefit:

1) Enhanced Guide: This would include searchable guide, named based recording and Tivo like features (always record new episodes of Lost for example). It would be nice if you could tell it to only consider certain channels when doing this as well, so the user would not get an SD version instead of an HD version. The guide should also have more than 2 or 3 days of data and should include descriptions for ALL shows (as available). The guide on the 500 is REALLY lacking in this fashion currently and I'm sure the 530 is the same.

2) Dual Recording. This is a MUST. There is no reason why it cannot record two things at once with two lines coming into the unit IMO. Obviously you would not be able to watch anything while it was recording two things, but it would be nice if the unit recorded two things at once and allowed you to watch something you have already recorded.

3) Some way to export what you have recorded via the USB port so you can keep a hard copy version. I doubt that will come anytime soon, but it would be an excellent feature.

That's my wishlist.

I have a few suggestions for navigation features:

1. I would like the ability to go to a specific point in a recording by time.

i.e. Press "Info" and then select a new "2 Go To" menu item and then enter 120 which would take me 1 minute 20 seconds (or 120 seconds whichever is more intuitive) into the recording. No need to fast forward, skip etc.

2. What if we had a feature where if you are watching a live/recorded show and I press 10 (1 then 0 buttons) and then the Skip Backward button, the show would Skip Backwards 100 seconds (Assuming the default 10 sec Skip Backward). This allows you to for example skip an advert where you are normally pressing the Skip Forward button 6 times, press 6 then Skip Forward. It would be limited to 99 auto presses as 3 numbers would select a channel.

I don't think that these would be that difficult to implement? What do others think?

Osmosis,

I agree with both of your suggestions.

Its one of the things I miss about the VCR.

My Suggestions:
1) Fix the bugs
2) Implement the ATSC firmware (since the hardware portion was already designed and built for Voom)
3) Implement any other firmware upgrades requiring minimal resources & time
4) Launch the DSR 500 replacement unit

THEN stop: drive the price on both units as low as possible

5) & most importantly - get working with the Ucentric group NOW on the Whole Home Server/Client project ala DTV and the others who are already onboard. No reason for SC to fall further behind the market.

Osmosis: I agee with your suggestions; navigating within recorded programs is currently not easy or intuitive.
