I've noticed it recently on some other HD channels when 4:3 material was up (I rarely watch them with 4:3) If I were at 3%, I think it'd be OK.
Does your TV have a setting for raising or lowering the image a bit. A lot of TVs have that, and if you raised it a couple of pixels, the problem might go away.

Unfortunately, that is not one of the settings on my TV that you can adjust. I'll just have to live with it by a) not watching HD stations when the program is not in HD and b) using the auto stretch through HDMI to watch non-HD stations.

I get the white lines as well. I was going to get a technician to adjust the overscan, but reading through the posts I believe it is the nature of the Panasonic tv's. I had this problem on 2 42PD50U's and now on my current 42PX50U. When I had the PD50, I had it set up right next to an LG plasma and the LG had far more overscan, plus on the LG you could shift the picture location.
I tested about 4 different cable boxes from rogers. They all produced the same results. I was ,and am, using an HDMI cable. Component cables fixed the problem for the most part but the white lines at the top of the screen would still show from time to time but not nearly as much as the HDMI connection. BTW, these white lines at the top of the screen only appear on HD channels watching SD content in the 4:3 or stretch modes where the top the the screen does not get cut off. HD content is perfect but the white lines will show during 4:3 commercials and some non HD programing. For me, NBS is probably the worst channel for this. I think this is something we have to live with with the Panasonic tv's. I hope they build in more overscan for later tv's. Last edited by TyTimp; 2005-07-11 at 02:18 PM. |

Seems like it. I love the picture on the TH42PX50, but those lines kind of drive me up the wall. But, if we can't change it...
You said that the component connection seemed to correct this. Why did you go back to HDMI? I'm using HDMI as well, and I'm not sure if the "auto stretch" feature would work properly on the component cables. |

Plus, I use the zoom ratio when watching SD content so that alone gets rid of the white lines. The PQ is too good on the Panasonic to switch to another brand that doesn't have this problem. It's a trade off I'm willing to accept. |

The way I did this was to disable 480i/p STANDARD in the setup wizard. This forced the SD channels into 1080i and I got the "crap". I enabled 480i/P STANDARD again and enabled passthrough or upconvert1 and I got rid of the "crap". Hope that helps someone.

I believe you missed the point main point. If you enable 480i/P standard, the issue may go away. Passthrough = auto HDMI, but I believe you have to go back into the settings (set picture format) and enable auto-HDMI after you do the setup wizard.
If you already have 480i/P STANDARD enabled, then disable 480i/P Widescreen. (each time you'll need to go back into the settings and enable auto-HDMI. If that doesn't work, then I'm stumped.

I've had 480i/P Standard, as well as widescreen, enabled from day one. By using the auto-HDMI, it stretches the picture, so I don't get the white lines on non-HD channels - like the Weather Channel - anymore. I still see white lines at the top of an HD channel when it is not broadcasting in HD. If I really want to watch that channel, I'll stretch the picture again.

I guess I'm stumped then. Try going into settings - set picture format...auto-HDMI?
