Default Array

I took this snapshot near Grimsby ON. This (I don't think) is not a commercial installation, there's nothing but a house(s) and barn nearby. I don't see any TV antenna's but it's got potential

Cool My OTA Gear in Belgium

Hi,

Here's my Attic install.:

Wisi eb66

One of the best German antenna, with 16.5db max gain, the yagi design is very popular here:

Preamp Tgn Ulna 36 dB gain and Noise Figure 0,4 dB:

Philips DTR 220 dtv receiveir

In Belgium we only have few dtv channel, I live near the border, so I bough the best material to receive the 18 channels from the French station.

Nice setup hoopitup2000:

Thats exactly the type of setup I will be looking at once we switch over to full digital in 2011.
We will have 3 stations going VHF HI and that is a great setup for that. Nice job.

Cheers

Bob

Default Wisi eb66

Wow !!! That Wisi is sweet !!! I love my 91XG but the ruggedness of the Wisi blows it away . So similiar they are . Now i`m curious about the performance difference between both type of elements and reflectors. The bottom line is the same (gain) . If that Wisi was available here i`d toss my Xg aside for it.

Hold your horses... I would not do that.

Some points about that German antenna:
  1. we don't know how linear the gain curve is for that quoted gain number
  2. we don't know if that quoted gain is realistic
  3. we don't know if it is quoted in dBi or dBd
  4. European UHF antennas don't have to go below Channel 21 so aren't designed for Channel 14 through 20
  5. I know of no North American dealers so shipping rates could be very high
If anyone has concrete answers to those concerns about the Wisi eb66 (and not just the minimal data from their website) please post in the Foreign & Smaller Brands of OTA Antennas thread but not in this one.

You are forgetting that Europe uses a different channel numbering convention. Channel 21 in Western Europe has a video carrier at 471.25, the same as Channel 14 in North America. On the other end, channel 69 in Western Europe has a video carrier at 855.25 (they use a 8 MHz spacing), the same as former channel 78 in North America. This is more of a problem as they are compromising gain for added bandwidth that is not necessary in North America.

Since the gain for yagis drops sharply for higher frequencies and more gradually for lower ones, the maximum gain quoted is likely somewhere up arround 800 MHz. The gain down around 470 MHz could easily be 10dB lower than that.

Default Posts on topic of grounding removed

There is an existing thread on grounding that covers everything you would ever need to know about the topic

Grounding Info & Standards: OTA/Dish/CATV/Telecom

cheers

Default VIP-307SR + CM4228s

Put up this big honkin vip307 on the weekend...lots of backlash/wiggle when rotor (AR-40) stops.
Not getting results I was hoping for with with the 307...if you notice the 2nd elements are angled back which is not in the original diagram sheet, wonder why?
