Here's my Attic install. CM4221 attached to PVC pipe from home depot cut to about 5 feet and attached to the rafter using a special bracket supplied by Yaamon.

Here's a close up of the bracket as well as a temp reading inthe Attic when I installed it It was an oven! This was Aug 2007.

That looks like an awesome bracket for attic installs. Wish I could find one here in Ottawa.

Glenner,

I see you're using a small hook screwed into the rafter to support the top. I did the same.

It looks like you've got twine tied to the bottom corners, pulling the bottom back so that the antenna angles downwards. Is this true, or is it just the wierd camera angle?

If angled, I assume you got better reception like this. Where are you located?

Wink DIY CM4221 Clone on Vancouver Island

I made an "equivalent" of the 4221 and have been happy with CBC HD so far. Signal strength shows at 73% on the tv and is the only HD channel I get. Other analogs come in ..but could be much better. An old makeshift rotator helps, but is a pain to use as the consol unit is almost toast.

I made mine from coat hangers, but used common 1.5" pvc pipe instead of 2x4's (works really well). Also used some hardware screen as a type of back reflector. The whole contraption is mounted on a piece of 10 foot 1.5" conduit (with the rotator in between) and is temporarily strapped to the chimney with a common ratcheting strap.

Here's a picture of the unit: http://s525.photobucket.com/albums/c..._6081Small.jpg

As I can't seem to source a proper calibrated 4228 anywhere in the GVA I may either make one up or give a homebuilt Gray Hoverman DBGH a shot. If a GH works well, then I may try to source a good "smart" rotator and preamp to go with it.

As for RG6, I used a 100' section c/w fittings bought from the local $ Store -- $10.

That's quite the conduit run! Any way of making the pictures bigger?

Calling for a 60% chance of showers on Monday. You might get lucky.

I see the pictures in the links but nothing happens when I clicked on the actual pictures themselves.

Edit: I just noticed my "view images" was turned off in my control panel here. Now it works.

chungdokwan, nice install. I assume you have the conduit pop up above ground before going into the house to prevent leaks? I can't tell from your picture.

i am using a reducer going from 4 inch to 1.5 inch conduit running up the wall outside and then into the house.

Default Install final pics

Here are the whole lot of the pics taken. i will post results after messing around this weekend. Buffalo was coming in strong last night but tended to pixelate once in awhile. Just enough to get my wife upset and go to C-band feed.

I've finally got my CM4221 set up complete and have posted an article detailing the steps involved. Thanks to everyone who provided advice.

Nice job.
I assume you did it, so that your install is to code, and I would have done the exact same thing, but I find it slightly ironic that we have to put a ground rod into the soil when your mast is in the soil already. I hope you don't get any frost-heave.

Well done with the install and your write-up, now relax and enjoy your HDTV!!
BTW, 100' without a pre-amp is amazing!

cheers

Default 3 x 4228

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/albu...&pictureid=142

The top 2 antennas point at Buffalo, the bottom one at Toronto/Hamilton. They are combined on a 3 way splitter on the mast. RG-11 comes down to a ground block, then to a 4 way distribution amplifier in the garage. RG-6 feeds to 2 bedrooms, living room and basement.
Dishes point at 82 & 91. Two SW24's and two SW44's feed 5 Bell Receivers.
10ft ground rod connected to mast, ground block dishes and switches.
