cypo , how far do you sit from the 90" screen and can you see pixels from there?

Thanks

Steve, I don't believe there is an HD capable PVR available yet. But there may be by the end of this year or early next.

I'm definitely interested in an HD/PVR receiver from BEV as soon as one becomes available.

Geoff,

I made some measurements after my post and here is what I have. I sit ~17' away from the screen. I have a 72"x96" adjustable screen and I use ~86" for DVDs and HDTV, and ~55" for 4:3 TV material.

At this distance, I never had any problems with pixels but I wasn't happy with the black level of DLP. I made several modifications to my LT150 and this improved the black level to an acceptable level.

Thanks Cypo.
How close do you need to get before you see pixels?
And what type of changes did you make to improve the black level?
How much of a difference did it make?
Thanks again ,
Geoff

Geoff,

I can see the pixels on white text at around 10-12' if you looked carefully. It is so minor that it is not really a big deal for me.

As for the modifications, 1) I blacked out the clear segment of the colour wheel, 2) I added a smaller aperture baffle to the rear lens element; 3) attached a black painted aluminum to absorb the waste light in the light box. Its not easy to quantify the improvement but I would say about 20-30% improvement. Its all explained in http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...p;pagenumber=1.

I am very happy with the PQ. It is also very easy to set up. The PJ is only 3.3 lbs and it sits on the coffee table. Until I cen get my hands on a bargain JVC D-ILA, this should keep me happy for the next 1-2 years.

NEC LT150 DLP
60" x 80" Dalite Hi-Power Screen
Panasonic RP91 Progressive Scan DVD Player
Pioneer CLD704 laserdisc player
JVC SVHS 3500 VCR
Digital Cable Box
Audio Components:
Yamaha AVR2095 DD/DTS Receiver - 5 x 100 watts per channel, plus 2 x 25 front effects channels
Centre Speaker: Paradigm Reference CC
Main Speakers: Paradigm Reference 20 V2.0

EAD PM500 - powers the front 3 channels and the centre rear channels

HT is in the basement and light control is not an issue.

I use the TV for regular viewing and the LT150 for DVDs. This will probably change once I go to HDTV from Rogers.

The "bold" items I still have.
Not one of these components ever "failed" except for VCRs which get constant use.
I had one or two items repaired at minor cost, but all were resold and used by others for many happy years.

The home theatre room is about 16' x 19'. I sit about 11' from the TV and the surrounds are about 4' behind and to the sides. The TV and the main speakers are on the "short" wall.

I'm now totally satisfied and won't need anything for many years (I hope), except for a High Def PVR when it becomes available, but I'll probably rent that, like I do my SA3100HD.
