Princess Auto have a nice price on the chimney mount kit. The included strapping is good for a double chimney , but not a triple. Also the bracket is designed for @ 1" diameter mast ( not a windsurfing mast....)
Nice selection of reasonably prices cables in the electronics mall on Matheson East of Dixie: Sayal etc. I had heard of it but the 1st time I dropped in. |

Does anyone know where I could find a rotor in the Greater Toronto Area? I need something that will rotate a CM4228. I don't want to spend a whole pile of money on it. Maybe a surplus store?

Try ********** a for used CM rotator. I saw used for $40.
I spent $135 on a new CM 9521a with the remote control and consider the money well spent. What's your budget? |

I'm one of the lucky people who bought an hd-capable tv which has no built-in hd tuner. Where can I buy an external hd tuner? I checked Future Shop and Best Buy and couldn't find any.

I assume you're talking about an ATSC tuner for OTA? See our extensive OTA forums:
http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=130 http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=81 If you're talking about a cable or satellite STB, you get those from the service provider or authorized distributor.

I did mean OTA... still catching up with the acronyms. I'll check those forums. Thanks!

You'll find that even after reading the extensive OTA forums that you're out of luck finding someone who sells a OTA STB for your HD monitor in Toronto. EBay or a trip to the U.S. is it. Unless someone knows different.

OK, so here's a question:
I've heard folks talking about using the best quality RG6 you can find. So where DO you find the best quality RG6 -- specifically in Toronto? Can anyone give me the name of a retailer that sells ultra-high-grade cables? How about Hosick? I'd rather NOT get into attaching my own ends, if it can be avoided. I would prefer to buy ready-made cables. I need two 25' and two 2' cables. |

There are a few shops that have everything that you need (cables, connectors tools, etc). Super prices. They are located on Matheson Blvd (100m west of Dixie on the north side)

Hi;
I am just getting into over-the-air high-def stuff, so don't be shocked if my facts aren't all straight. Someone at work told me that I can get CBC (Hockey) and maybe some other stations in hi-def, over-the-air in Ottawa. Does this mean 1080i or what?? First, is this true? How many stations could I get? Second, where could I get a tuner and the right antenna? If you know about this stuff, please pipe in. I'd like to learn all I can and do this if possible. Thanks, Tom. |

Hi Tom, welcome to Digital Home. Your friend was correct, HD over-the air (OTA) in your area.
The answers to your questions are indeed found here: The OTA Forum Knowledge Base and FAQ http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=41102 This truly is required reading for newcomers. Having read the OTA Forum Knowledge Base and FAQ, you can avoid the pitfalls of asking questions in the OTA forums that are answered here already. When you do participate in the forums you will find folks to be friendly and keen to help. Last edited by timbo; 2007-04-05 at 05:20 PM. |

Can anyone please tell me where to obtain from a Canadian supplier the much discussed (much praised?) but possibly now discontinued from further manufacture Philips or Zenith "Silver Sensor" beam (Yagi) directional mini indoor UHF antenna ?
It is described variously as the ZHDTV-1 or PHI PHDTV-1 and can be obtained for about $20 - $25 State side from places like Circuit City and Amazon.com but they both refuse to ship to Canada. |
