Certainly sounds like an interim issue, like perhaps cracked solder. When mine failed my repair guy totally "rebuilt" the board with solder.
If it jumps in/out, then the ICs are not (YET) blown, but may if it keeps up.

hi guys I love this tread and I love diy's where I dont have to waste 400$ for some one to do something I can do no problem.
My question is this even though the circits may be all alike I didn't see my model number reprosented in the thread (sorry if i'm hijacking) ok I have a 53fdx01b chassis number dp05 it was made september 2000 but I bought it referbished 2004 right after I got it there was a problem with it displaying and image but it was all dark the place where I bought it from came over and fixed it free as I got extended warranty on it from them, the problem I now have is with the blue image skeweing eg. ![]() I would like to know what parts I have to replace to fix this issue, now I have taken the tv apart (found the optics needed some good cleaning) and looked for ic's or any thing that might of burnt but I didn't see or smell anything that would screen out replace me. I just got a new job and my work hours are long so I'm wasted when I get home today I dont have the time or energy to clean off all the components and look for the stk numbers listed above if any one here can point me in the right direction I will have my tv back to normal by next week (please keep in mind that i'm from canada) if there is a kit I can use with my tv please let me know of the link where I can get it more info from the back of the tv model 53fdx01b s/n V0i0007440 a/c 120v 60Hz (236W, 3.2A) made september 2000 average power a/c 208W chassis number dp05 please e-mail me any info (and post on here for others seeking the light) to goodday3k@rogers.com thank you for your time and help (the blue "gun" up close with out the lens on) ![]() and the three of them ![]() thanks again |

killmeman, please read post 1 of this thread. You'll need to replace the ICs and possibly some resistors and check the board for cracked solder. There's a link to one place that sells kits also there. There is mention of other places to get ICs throughout the thread.

hi all,
just wondering how most of u are accessing these ICs? are most of u removing the board altogether (which looks like it would be a pain), or are u tipping the tv forward & getting to them from the bottom? i tipped it forward but it looks as though i might have to do some particle board cutting to get to both of them. does this sound remotely correct? thanks

I was not in my own head when I made that post, I had a lot on my mind.
anyway I looked at at the PCB I have the ic's (STK392-110) listed in the first post, I will try to get them from one of the electronics parts stores near me first other wise I will order form one of the links above. I tried searching for a downloadable service/schematics manual but all I could find was places that advertised that they had it but didn't or everything else was pay for a CD or DVD of like 40different things on it to get the one you want so I will try to search which resisters I should replace and what ever else I have to do... also I have to find a 12VDCsource somewhere in that TV so that I can install a cooling fan (I got 2 19dba 40cfm fans for 5$CND) I hear that the ic's are failing because of heat stress well when I'm done with it heat will never again be a problem with it. About the 12VDC if I cant find a source then I will take something higher and step it down other wise I will take a PSU from and old ATX case and make a gate trigger for the ATX PSU to power the fans (and since I got 12VDC I might add some under glow ^.^) Thanks you for all your help and this thread.... if any one here has a copy of the schematics I would really appreciate a copy. |

If you search the web for your TV's make, model number, followed by "service manual", you should be able to find several sites that will sell you paper or electronic service manuals. They are usually about $20 and should contain the schematics - mine did.
Since fans are so inexpensive, you may wish to purchase one or two 120V fans - they also run about $5 each if I recall. Heat is apparently not the only issue though, although it contributes.

if life can be prolonged that it will help as for the 120Vac fans I have yet to find cheap quiet and reliable ones near me besides I have have so much spare parts from all kinds of things as for 20$ for the service manule well I found the one the tv came with but I sill dont have a schimatic for it and I don't see in my future spending that kinda money on something that should be free but I guess I'm just really cheep (kinda why i'm here in the first place right ^.^)
here is a joke you you guys, in the mean time waiting for a reply on here and working I sent off an e-mail to hitachi asking them if they can send me a file of paper form of the schematic, you know what the answer was that they gave me "this is not an issue that we can discuses over the Internet you need call one of our cirtifed tech or find a repair dealer near you" ya it toke me and me brother like 20min and a load of sweat to get it into the basement I'm not getting it back out till it caches fire and I HAVE to scrap it then it's time for plasma. |

is there anything to discharge(like in the older crt tube style), prior to taking the ICs or resistors? is there anything right next to the chips & resistors that i should really try not to touch?

no there isn't but the best idea would be to pull the plug out of the wall while the TV is still on then wait like 20minutes before unplugging anything.
well I just did my repair today and since there are like 20 plugs I decided to label them, just look on the PCB and next to each plug there is a [] box with some letters and numbers like "PCR" or "PQS1" just label that on the wire that way you cant screw up putting it back together. well since there are no free schimatics on the net that I can download with out paying for it I have taken pictures and labeled them with what I have on my PCB so here it is here is the wide view ![]() here is a labeled closeup ![]() the back of the PCB ![]() to all of you that don't think you can do it trust me it's easy, but the IC's are a little hard to get out (I should of bought some de-soldering wick) if you don't have a wick or forgot to get one like me just cut off all the leads and unsolder each one at a time make sure you clear the holes of all solder or you will not be able to get the new one in also got get like a 40W iron get like a 15W and BE CAREFUL do not be to rough on the board and don't add too much heat or you will pop the contacts off of the PCB then you will have to trace the path and and bridge it. also heres that I have on my PCB RK43 - 220ohJ RK42 - 2.2oh RK47 - 150ohJ RK46 - 1.5oh RK63 - 150ohJ RK62 - 3.3oh RK59 - 220ohJ RK58 - 3.3oh RK51 - 220ohJ RK55 - 150ohJ RK54 - 1.5oh RK40 - 2.2oh IK04 - STK394-110 (CONVER AMP) IK05 - STK394-110 (CONVER AMP) Ok for those of us that are in canada here is some info that you can use WWW.AA-E.COM the site sucks and there is no search but the store is big and they have good pricing (ask for no tax tink tink) the ICs I got from there at $16.50 but they don't really have that good a selection of resisters so for resisters go to WWW.SAYAL.COM they have a HUGE store are right next to AA electronics ^.^ other then that you can go to WWW.GLOBALSEMI.COM but they are really OVER priced the STK's are 60$ no thanks, so between AA and SAYAL to fix my TV it was a total of about $40 and if it burns out again then I will spend another $40 hehehe I can do that 10 times and the way I figure it that will last me longer then spending $400 once. As for the fans well there is no 12VDC source so I will go with "57" said and I will get a 120VAC fan I can get one from SAYAL for $20cnd. I wish all of you happy DIY's and I only hope people take my lead and post pictures with labels and instructions on how to do it yourself (if I had more time I would made a schematic of this PCB but I don't sorry) |

just to let everyone know.....
i see alot of talk on here of ppl with IC problems (stk392-110), & usually someone says go with stk392-150, & in some cases(don't know if they're any better) they're told to go with the stk392-180. well ive been posting on here about my convergence problem in my hitachi 46f500, which lasted only 2.5 years, & my IC chips are stk392-150. evidently it seems that my problem arose just as soon(or sooner than som ppl with the 110s. soooo....does this mean that the 180s should be the only choice? i also wonder if the quality & amount of the heatsink paste used will make a dramatic difference. im guessing these chips could also use a bigger heatsink and/or even a mini fan. who know maybe theres something else in the in the tvs circuitry thats causing these Ic chips to go prematurely. all i know this might be the last hitachi i own, my other hitachi crt (tube style) has lasted me 10 yrs & my parents have a rear projection that has lasted around 15 yrs. i seem to think the hitachi i once trusted may no longer be the same company we once knew in one way or another & this is sad :-( |

This is not a Hitachi issue. All CRT-based RPTVs - Panasonic, Sony, Philips, Mits, etc have this issue with the ICs. They are/were made by Sanyo I believe and were issued to all CRT-RPTV manufacturers.
I cannot speak to your question re 180 vs 150. I've read differing opinions on the matter. It is possible that the HDTV ICs are under more 'stress' than the SDTV ones, but SDTVs also have the issue. I also moderate on a US forum where there are 10X the number of problems...

thanks for the reply ,
ok, is it safe to say that maybe i should look into diiferent technology for my next tv(plasma, lcd) or do these seem to have many problems of there own also? i didnt include DLP in my choices as ive already read about too many early bulb failures(& the moving wheel sounds scary), in fact i work with some1 that just recently had a bulb failure within couple months of getting his brand new 52" samsung. if i don't succeed in repairing my 46f500 then i may start shopping around....any recommended tvs? |
