As I would expect that ad would be sitting on the the desks of the folks running Express-vu today ... that they will adding CBC-HD shortly, and will be pissed that their minions hadn't added it already.

I expect (this is a Rogers ad, right?) that this was just opportunism on the part of Rogers to get the ad in quickly, before Bell added it. Quite amusing!!

You mean besides Fox News and CNN ;-)

My point here was that we are years behind the US and if even their network news is not in HD then it is a bit of a stretch to expect the CBC to be doing news in HD. I know that a few local news programs in the US are in HD, as is Omni news, or at least it is in widescreen and looks very sharp.

Why should government ownership make a difference? News is one of the shows that I am least interested in having in HD especially since remote reports will be in SD for a long time to come until the whole world adopts HD.

And my point was that if relatively small players like privately-owned Seattle local stations can afford to put news in HD, you would expect CBC to be able to do so when considering their double-dipping method of funding (coming from advertising as well as government allocations) and the fact they are a national network.

Anyway, I'm just sayin...

Of course, I, too, have bigger fish to fry... like trying to get Shaw cable to add an HD channel. I would sooner take on The Rock in an arm wrestling match as far as my odds of winning go...

Is it just me of the "D" in HD is now showing whereas a couple of days ago, the only letters visible on the screen were "CBC H"?
I watched Antiques Roadshow in HD...very nice color and PQ. Not true HD I think but much clearer than analog SD...

I don't believe the show is "cropped". I also just did a PoP side-by-side. I believe what you're seeing is "Overscan". Most TVs have about 4-6%. Mine has about 3% and I believe I was "missing" about that 3%...

The show tonight is actually from Toronto...

Hmmmm, I wonder if CBC-HD will be broadcasting the new Doctor Who series in 16:9, since it sounds like thats the BBCs main format... I will be seriously disappointed if they dont. (Mind u, i dont get CBC-HD yet, but its the principle )

I'm now checking out the Fifth Estate, regarding that Charlatan Benny Hinn. When they have programming that was originally shot 16:9, then everything's fine on the HD channel, vs SD. However, when the programming was not 16:9, the top and bottom are cropped on HD, resulting in the tops of heads being cut off in a lot of scenes. They need to utilize a stretch mode or something for this material, or show it 4:3...

See this post about the logo. They appear to be learning fast...

Let's hope they are reading this thread.

Harl, give your friend the URL for this thread. We'll supply lots of helpful hints...

News is on now, it's 4:3 and the HD logo is gone. Nice touch using the HD logo on widescreen material.

IMHO you have to give the CBC credit. They haven't even launched their channel yet but they have fixed a problem with the logo, shown several HD programs and are making an effort to show material in widescreen SD where possible.

Sure it is not perfect as 57 pointed out they have to fix some cropping efforts but it is nice to finally see a Canadian network make an effort.

I'm just wondering, has anyone here from Western Canada contacted Shaw about them carrying CBC HD?

I am about to call them, but I was curious to find out what kind of "canned response" (read "CSR knee jerk) were being thrown around.

I find that Rogers channel 273 (French) is quite a bit more crisp than Rogers 272 on upconverted 4:3. Anyone else notice?

FWIW I'd like to see the HD logo more opaque....the Global HD logo is really opaque.
