You're better off with an OTA STB. A motorla can be purchased for as low as $299 US at Circuit City in the US. the BEX OTA module won't work in heavy rain, if the sat signal is lost. Very frustrating, because my OTA module was bought for that reason, when sat signals aren't receivable. Samsung OTA boxes often offered on E-bay.

Splash,
You can find 8vsb's on Ebay for as little as $75 vs. Jonics $345!! If you are currently subbing to Bell, go for it. Even,iIf you cancel Bell, the promo channels are STILL in the clear. As long as you leave the 6000 connected to a dish, you will be able to receive OTA. For those in the Windsor area, OTA is a bonanza. In Toronto and GTA, there could me as many as 10 or more available channels within the year. Taking Buffalo nets and New Toronto HDTV licensees into account. |

Living in Vancouver area, I have been watching this issue.
From other posts, I'm fairly sure that we do not have access to the Seattle stations, except possibly from an elevated position Would love to hear that these are available as far north as Vancouver city centre Jeff |

I have the 6100 and hooked up a Silver Sensor, I could receive a few analog channels including the Kitchener Station. The rest I already can get with ExpressVu such as City Tv, TVO, Global.
I can not receive any digital OTA stations at all. Anyone else have any luck in the Kitchener area, or are we just too far away to pick up any US stations. |

You should be able to pick up some Buffalo stations but you will need a good outdoor antenna or a very good location for stable reception. You will also need a good receiver. Chances are, you will be able to pick up something with the Silver Sensor in favourable weather conditions.

Can anyone tell me what the big deal is with OTA? Living in Calgary, I can't believe there is anything that I could pick up on attenna that wouldn't be part of my ExpressVu programming. Is OTA just designed for U.S. customers who can't get local programming through satellite? Or do you guys in Toronto pick up stuff from Buffalo on OTA also?

The OTA feature will come in handy when local stations begin transmitting an HD signal OTA.
USA is further ahead of Canada in this regard. |

Keep in mind you and I are 300 km from the nearest US transmitter. Toronto is less than 50 km as the crow flies across the lake. I remember in the 80's living in Winnipeg, a Fox station put up a tower in Pembina, ND; about 100 km away. There was a big uproar about the most powerful Fox transmitter in the US being 4 KM from the Canadian border and serving a town of 1500 people. But we were watching Fox 5 years before anybody else. |

I live in Milton ( An hour SW of Toronto ) and I can pick up all of Bufallo stations. The picture tends to be better OTA than on EVU since EVU compresses their HD signals, quite a bit in some cases.
Assuming you can get a lock on the station that is. Cheers, Ian |

I bought an 8VSB tuner cartridge for my Model 6000 receiver from an authorised Expressvu dealer in February 2003. After 3 months it died, so my dealer replaced it himself when Expressvu didn't reply. In January this year, the second module died - before the 1 year warranty period expired. My dealer apparently could not get Expressvu or Jonic (the supplier at the time) to respond. Finally, in early August, a Bell Expressvu dealer representative told us that Bell would not honour the warranty because they no longer deal with Jonic !!! This is totally unacceptable, and I will be aggressively pursuing compensation. Just imagine if Expressvu starts ignoring the warranties on receivers originally supplied by Jonic. This item was advertised on Bell's website. It was supported (LOL) by Expressvu's technical staff. Your comments, suggestions would be appreciated. *** Bellworker - Your thoughts on resolving this situation? ***
