Just got my Bell Bill; As of June 1st 2014, the price of Internet is going up $5.00. The price of
landline phone is also going up. Roughly $1.00 depending where you live.
^^^^
I understand that, but there's something inherently wrong about having a fee for something that's not optional. Back in the '60s, when TT service was introduced, it was a premium item. Not now. Any telephone switching equipment that can't handle touch tones has been obsolete for decades.
Question?: I have negotiated my contract with Bell a few months ago for ONE YEAR. Is Bell technicallly not breaking this contract buy raising there fees? Is this procedure legal while under contract? Don't get me wrong I do understand price increases. But not under contract. This is why I spent time on the phone negotiating my contract with Bell for one year. Not six months! Any thoughts?
You negotiated a discount for one year , unfortunately regular price increases would still apply. This is my understanding after being with bell for many years.
What I noticed with Bell is that they will increase the prices on the different "services" one at a time instead of just a general price increase.
What I mean is - one month they will increase the price of the base phone line. 5 months later they will increase the price of the long distance package, then 5 months later they will increase the price on internet.
The same thing happens with their satellite service. Bell will increase the price on the timeshifting option 1 month, then 7 months later they will increase the price of the basic package, then later on they remove tv channels (SPEED), but don't give a price decrease.
Rogers are also guilty of doing price increases.
Bell's continual price increases pushed me over the edge last October, and I changed my home phone service over to Rogers. No silly "touch tone" fees, they just bury it in the price of the service. (and based on my phone service requirements - Rogers price is $20/month cheaper)
I still have Bell TV, because I've got a fair amount of money invested in the equipment, and quite honestly I am satisfied with the service. It's the price increases that continually bother me.
Bell does not realize that with their constant price increases they are driving customers away from their services.
I have been without bell home phone for 4 years now , and I am never coming back even if they offered it for $5.00 a month.
There are many services out there for a fraction of the cost of what bell charges for their home phone or Internet service.
I just opened up my Bell bill also and saw the message regarding the $5.00 June 1st increase!! Amazing! I have the Bell Fibe Internet 15/10 with 60GB per month allotment. They're charging me $56.95 but with much ranting and threats of pulling the plug months ago, I'm getting a $13.09 Promo credit which leaves me at $43.86 before taxes. I cancelled my Bell landline last year and have been on a dryloop since. For home phone we are now using MagicJack. At $80.00 for the module and $30.00 a year for service, can't go wrong. With Bell now jacking up internet pricing, I may soon switch over to another provider (out of Quebec).
I doubt it will work on my Rogers Home Phone, which uses VoIP.
Regardless, touch tone became standard years ago. By having a separate charge, Bell can say their phone service costs only $X, when it's in fact $X+Y. It's the same scam as the airlines tacking on all those fees that are part of the cost of delivering the service, while claiming low fares.
1. Digipulse does work on Rogers Home Phone. I just tried it and I didn't bother having my alarm system changed years ago when I switched to Rogers Home Phone from Bell (digipulse).
2. This thread is not really about the TT fee, it's about price increases. The TT fee rant has been discussed many times previously and everyone on Bell knows about it and looks at their overall bill, same as other fees on various provider services.
My current internet is with E-Box 7meg unlimited 55$
I want to reduce my home phone that is with bell that is currently 55$ I think that 55$ for a land line is crazy, it should be around 20$.
I called bell to try and reduce my phone bill and they told me they could offer me 20$ for the phone line If I took the fibe 25 for 50$ 80$ with tv but I dont want tv.
My Dilema is that I like Ebox nice quick help service. If I was to take their 19.95 voip I would have to buy a new modem that handles voip and they dont offer one that has wifi so I would have to also buy a router. I would have to switch to their cable service because I dont want to pay for dryloop.
Anyways im a bit sad but I think ill take the bell deal. At the same time i would bundle up my cellphone (iphone).
I am also with Ebox and pay less than $50 for 25/10 service and the dry loop is included for free.
For the phone, you could buy and Obi device and use voip.ms. My monthly phone bill is roughly $6 including 911.
You would need to buy or rent a new modem (I bought the Sagemcom first but it's a piece of junk so I ended up getting the SmartRG 505n - both were $120) for this but you would have your costs recovered from the savings in no time.
I'm wondering if I'm an idiot for keeping my Bell internet. I was looking at my bill yesterday (since it comes online, I hardly pay attention to it) and noticed I'm paying about $88/month, and the package is simply called High Speed with unlimited bandwith. Download of 5mbps and in doing some speed tests, I get between 2.5 and 5.5.
How realistic are the download speeds that Rogers advertises? I can get Rogers Hybrid Fibre 60 with 320GB for about the same price or 150 mbps and 350GB for another dollar. What am I missing in this? With 4 of us using the net now in the house, and sometimes 2 of us at one time using Netflix, it seems things are slowing down. But I'm not sure if going to Rogers is going to be an improvement. I've had this Bell account for probably 15 years so I'm not sure if the rate creep I've had is just because I don't typically keep up with the latest packages. I don't think the Bell 5 Plus plan will quite do it bandwith wise, as we are at 80GB with 17 days left.
Because the Rogers infrastructure has to meet the needs of those on the highest tier, everyone below that gets what's advertized. Even the highest tier people get what's advertized, unless there is an issue in their particular area. You can read this in the Rogers Internet section here.
As mentioned in the post above, with SpeedBoost, the initial download for a few seconds is typically higher than advertized. I'm on Express 25 and often get 30 or more on the speedtest sites, but never less than 25. If you have several services with Rogers, you can usually negotiate significant discounts of about 20%, sometimes more, depending on your services. See the Rogers Pricing thread.
I'm with Rogers. I have the 60/10 320 GB package that costs me about $61/month, including taxes. On speedtest.net, I generally get low-mid 70's and have seen 84 Mb/s down. Upload is almost always within 1% of 10 Mb, usually on the high side.
One Bill
Note - As of April 1, 2015, the monthly rate of each of your Home phone and Internet services in Ontario will increase by $2 and $4 respectively. I am sick of the recent price increases from Bell. I have TV, phone and internet. I switched from Cogeco to Bell last April, expecting to pay $82/month for two years. Last summer the price of the internet went up. I was told everybody's did. Bell gave me back $10 as a compensation. Next I find out the bundle discounts are reduced. They gave me back $18 to cover off the difference for 6 months, instead of the rest of the term. Now I find the internet and phone are going up. What good is a contract if the company changes the rules in the middle of the game?? I am seriously thinking of switching to Start.ca for internet and phone and Shaw Direct for TV. This would cost $90.00/month instead of $102.85/month before taxes.
I'm sick of the constant price increases - some disguised as reductions in bundle discounts - every few months. Bell's service is reliable but their price increases are way above inflation and there have been absolutely no commensurate improvements in service over the years.
Teksavvy internet and VOIP phone are being installed next week and I will save at least $50 per month + HST. Thanks for pushing me to the competition, Bell.
I had been with teksavvy. It is $30 more expensive than what I am paying bell for 25/10 and it it very unreliable when it comes to consistency of speed, but I guess you will find that out soon enough.
I can't believe how Bell keeps piling on these price increases. $2.00 on each service in April. I complained last fall when they put in increases then. They ended up giving me a $10/month credit and free movie network for a year, but here we are months later and they are hitting us up again. Disgusting.
They rank up there with the big oil companies.
