Just got some used (rental) Nextbox 2.0 and 3.0 from Rogers.
I can see that the 8642 has a WD5000AVCS which is supposed to be one of WD's quietest "green" drives. It is no better than my ancient 8300HD and actually more annoying because it produces a high-pitch whine. I am wondering if this is normal or due to high number of hours on the unit (clearly previously used)?
The 9865 is slightly better but still has that annoying, high-pitch whine. It also appears to be refurbished.

NOTE: I live in a quiet neighborhood. I am talking about the constant noise of the drive spinning when the system is off, not drive access seeking noises.
