Well, I am not sure if it is a good idea that a broadcaster with just one channel like CBC is given back-to-back playoff games.

Because the CHI-STL game runs into 3OT, LAK-SJS game is almost completely forgotten so much so that 5 goals and two periods of the game are not available on TV.
The SJ/LAK game is available on their web platforms. That does help a little. Frankly that game sounds like a big bore unless you're a Sharks fan however on principle you do have a point.
The games on the website does help a little but the feed does have more interruptions than on regular television. When games go into overtime, CHEX should show the beginning of the next game so fans do not miss it. There were fans upset that they missed so much of the Kings-Sharks game.

CHEX is available on Rogers, but not in HD.

Wouldn't it have made more sense for CBC to arrange to have their spillover games air on another widely available channel? Perhaps on Sportsnet or Rogers affiliates, given the upcoming deal. Or similar to what CBC did for the Olympics.

In the expiring NHL deal the only station they could have moved it to was TSN/TSN2. It's not like the Olympics where they can subcontract as they want. Bell is the exclusive cable TV home of NHL. No way they let Rogers or anyone else get the games, especially after just getting shut out on the new NHL contract.

CHEX is a CBC affiliate with GTA penetration which is why they get the game. If memory serves, CHEX management actually had to petition CBC years ago to allow this and it drew a good rating.

Question to the CeeB. Did it ever occur to you that some viewers in Nova Scotia and the Maritimes are not only fed up with having the Leafs on every Sat. night but last night might have preferred to see Sydney Crosby and the Penguins instead of the Montreal game? Just askin'

Well, I guess I am fortunate enough to be with Bell Fibe that I get CHEX / CHEX2 in HD so that I can switch games during break, even though I am not in Ontario. I can not say the same for most of TV viewers in my province since Videotron, that has almost monopoly, does not carry the channels at all.

Looking at this arrangement, why does CBC not collaborate with TSN? CBC could have given game 1 of CBJ-PIT and game 3 of CHI-STL to TSN, which could have aired them on TSN2. In return, CBC could get, I dunno, game 2 of DAL-ANA and game 2 of MIN-COL, perhaps? CBC is free on those two games.

I'm on Bell Satellite and was able to see the game on CHEX2 in SD. For some reason CHEX's transponder on the satellite was dead last night. It never occurred to me check to see if CI was showing the Pittsburgh/Columbus game live as CI ends broadcasting when the playoffs start. At least that's how it has been in the past.
