The procedure from the first call to Bell required that the Updates time (Menu-6-1-6) be set to the current time of day plus 10 minutes, set the transponder (Menu-6-1-1) to 13, and unplug the receiver and leave it that way for a couple of hours. I asked the tech person three times if he really meant for me to unplug the receiver and each time he insisted that unplugging the receiver was the correct concluding step. Nothing happened.
The procedure from the second call to Bell involved setting the transponder to 13 and then turning off the receiver with the remote. Nothing happened. Still have software version 104 on the unit. Calling Bell again. |

Called Bell for a third time. Again stepped through a number of the menu screens, unplugged the receiver and plugged it back in, tested the switch, checked software version a couple of time, etc. Finally was told to turn off the receiver and once again leave it off for a couple of hours. I was told that the receiver would download the software for sure this time because of something he did at their end.
I'm betting I have to call again. |

Firmware updates are never instantly available for everyone. They add ranges (or bunches) of serial numbers in increments until all are in the list to obtain the update. It may take a day or two until yours is updated. Best thing to do is keep both tuners off when it is not in use and it will take the update when its serial number is in the list to obtain it. Currently I see that v104 and v107 are both still in the stream meaning some are meant to take v104. I suppose from what you've been saying, when you reach level 2 support they are able to add your specific receiver # to the list to force the download.

Thanks for these suggestions, I guess I will wait a week and see
Unfortunately if I turn both tuners off with the remote, the 3200 is now RELIABLY crashing - I am left with that floating screensaver, but with the float stuck - cant turn on So I suspect it may be trying to DL the update, but doesnt seem to be able to load it I am not seeing the download progress bar for an update that I used to see After months where the 3200 worked well with 104, now crashing if I dont leave one of the 2 tuners always "on" |

Jeff, mine is doing the same.
I unplugged it last night for a bit so I could reset it. Watched tv till 11pm with no problems and then turned it off. This morning its locked up again. I just did the update thing, we'll see what happens. A. Last edited by AndreGT6; 2006-01-29 at 09:21 AM. |

Andre,
Did it take the update? Are you coming from v103 or v104 in the past, I found this receiver slow to take updates at times - I actually put hours in to the v102 to v103 issue, spent multiple calls on phone to Bell - eventually they shipped me a replacement IRD By the time it got to me, the non-updating receiver had actually updated (1 week after convincing them I needed a replacement) !! Finally got V107 downloaded. It took some patience (5 phone calls) with the techs at Bell and finally the intervention of a Level 3 technician.
I don't know what they did from their end but from my end I had to: -disconnect the two inputs from the dish -reset the box by holding down the front panel button for 10 seconds -reconnect the two inputs -within the menu system, reset the receiver to factory defaults -on the point dish screen, set satellite to 82 -turn off the unit from the front panel. -wait about an hour for it to complete the download Each phone call involved a different set of steps to try to get the receiver to download the software and this was the only one that worked. |

To force an update on the 3200, I find that if you slect "point dish" and the signal is displayed, then turn the receiver off, it then starts the update process within about 10 seconds. Leave the TV on so you can watch it's progress. This doesn't mean that it will take the update, but at least you can try to force it.
It works for me.... WW |

Hey Jeff, I'm at v104 right now.
But I'm going to try White Water's method. Anything to avoid calling Bell I have my set up installed really nicely. So getting in there to pull the wires is a pain. A. |

How can I tell if my unit is updating. I did a reset and then followed your directions. Currently the bell box is moving around. A. |

BEV told me to update go to 616 and enable then just let it happen, just freezes and I have to either disconnect or re-boot. Ist tech said new version is 107 then last one said its 105. They said they would replace my 3200 with 2 new receivers (3100's) but I use 3 TV's with this system. Is the 4100 any better than the 3100?. I am still under warranty and this is 3rd unit!!

Still no go for me - have tried the various tricks listed above
to ldmrp glad your 3200 is updated, but you got to wonder whether it was that specific procedure, or that they had you trying a number of procedures which would possibly work - eventually that combo worked, but it might not be the only scientifically valid one A couple of questions for you? CAn you remember what channel you were on? After reconeecting the two inputs, at least my 3200 quite quickly "knew" it had a connection, and by the time I had come round from behind the TV, it had virtually completed a full guide DL - should I have stopped this? As a general observation, it is a bit worrying that they want to hand out 3100's in place of 3200's Firstly the 3100's are now "retired" Secondly they are not a fair trade in terms of function (altho this is arguable if your 3200 now no longer works well) - in my case I do use the second tuner functionn anyway Most worrying, it suggests that they see the 3200 as unfixable - I thought Dish at least had their's kinda working - this last update seems disastrous for those who havent made the update, as I assume it is some attemtpt to update which is crashing the receiver |

To those of you who have updated, do you have N1 or both N1 and N2
What kind of switches are you using if you are multisat or multireceiver? I'm asking as I have a SW44/SW44A setup, but tried disconnecting Tuner2. I reran "check switch" which indicated just one set of attachments However when I tried to update with this, I got a "switch or signal" error screen coming up after 10 or 15 minutes - when I try to update with both tuners attached, it just crashes To AndreGT6 At least with previous versions, you know it is downloading and installing the update, as you get either 1 or 2 different progress bars coming up, and a warning to not "mess" with the 3200 When things are going well, this is usually within 5 min of turning off receiver |

Jeff I had none of that then.
The bell continue box bounced around for under an hour and then locked up. Black screen with select to continue frozen in space. May have to call Bell and get vocal. I mean I have to write instructions so my wife can watch tv. Come down stairs to the reciever. Pull the ent unit off the wall and unplug the BEV...... Stupid, do they not test this? Wait this is Bell they just figure they are right all the time. On no its 616AM and I'm ranting already A. |
