I noticed on one of the channels that rogers is testing comes up in the guide as "Lobby Watch Channel" and under the description is says "This channel provides apartment and condo residents access to the security camera, where availible."
However when I tune into this channel it is actually the same feed as CPAC (channel 59) Any ideas whats up with this? |

If you lived in an apartment and if you had the analogue feed from the apartment, you'd see the security camera image on Ch 998. If you had an analogue TV, same thing - you'd see it on Ch59 of the analogue TV.
998 is not a "test" channel, it's where they remap Ch 59 analogue. Edit - In many areas, channels 2-72 are now digital, with the analogue channels "remapped" to the 800s.

Yup, that is the case here in my building.
When this feature was introduced some time ago, Chs. 59 (RDI here) and 998 showed a camera that was installed in the front lobby. When Rogers added the digital versions of 02-76 in the 800 series, 859 was RDI, while 59 remained overridden by the lobby cam, presumably for those without digital cable. After the recent digital/analog switch, 59 is RDI, 859 and 998 are the lobby cam. |

I was wondering if someone could actually replace cable 59 and/or digital channel 998 with their own private camera feed? We have a camera outside our garage that points towards our driveway and in would be very usedful to view this camera via the cable box.

With all the appropriate equipment, it would be possible, but it may be expensive (Apartments do it after all).
What if you got a modulator for your camera and simply fed it to the antenna input (Channel 3 or 4?) on your TV and switched inputs when necessary?

There are devices available to do exactly this. There are a few here:
