How can it be the receiver when everyone talking about this issue has a different receiver? There has to be commonality for this to be happening to so many people, myself included. And the common factor is the provider (Rogers) and the hardware (HD8000 PVR).
My box is 1 month old. Not sure how long it was sitting on the store shelf, but my guess is very little because they have been flying off the shelf. Ever since these problems started, I have been trying to exchange it, but both BB and FS are out of stock. In fact, FS tells me that although they have it listed, they have no plans to stock it because of difficulties in getting it (makes no sense to me). The Rogers tech who came to see the problem replaced connectors outside, and cabling inside, but to no avail. I asked him to swap it but he said since I didn't buy it through Rogers (I bought at BB) he could not. He also confirmed Rogers just got a batch in, but no retail stores have them. I could return it to BB and buy from Rogers, but I got a much better price at BB than I can get through Rogers, so I don't want to lose that. |

Oh and btw, I've unplugged and rebooted by box several times over the past few weeks, but it makes no difference.

Hi Denis et al. I would like to add that I had been experiencing the same sound problems you and others have described. And even more that at times the remote would freeze (stop functioning). Each time rebooting (unplugging) would stop sound issues for a while. I have had my 8000HD unit for just under two monthos and in the last two to three weeks have not had a reoccurence. I was going to ask Rogers for a replacement unit.

I've replaced my unit and have had no problems since. Problem could be a chipset with certain firmware. I personally dont believe its just a box problem, since so many others are having this too. My problems lasted about a month, then went away for 2 weeks and then came back and I got fed up.

There is a chipset in the SA8000 (SD) that is causing them to not receive audio on certain stations at all. That was remedied in the SA8000HD.
Since the audio problems seem to "go away (for a while)" with a reboot, it's doubtful there is a hardware issue. It's likely firmware. If the problem is there "all the time", then there may be some hardware incompatibility, as outlined in kixsand's thread with the NAD.

One other problem not mentioned previously is that my extend record time function just doesn't work, though it once did. It briefly superimposes the new stop time over the title, then it disappears after a few seconds and the stop time remains unchanged. Anybody else have this problem? |

Hmm, I've been seeing spotty sound today for the first time in a week or so ... not sure if it is coincidence, related to the reboot this morning (manual), or that Rogers was around and ran a new wire from the TV to the junction box outside (much shorter wire now, but they changed the 3-way splitter to a 4-way splitter at the box, despite my objections that only 2 of the wires are used, doesn't make a difference they say ... Whew...am I ever glad to hear that other people are having this problem with the STB dropping audio on channel changes and when fast forwarding and rewinding recordings. This just started happening to me about two weeks ago...out of the blue...had never happened before.
I thought that it might be my new NAD T753 and that was going to be too much for me to bear. I disabled the digital connection to the receiver and it was still losing the audio even through the analog connection. This seemed to me to be proof positive that the issue lie in the STB. Now that I've found this thread I can be certain. I'm going to trade up to the SA8300HD ASAP. Thanks guys, darren |

I'm having the same problems with the audio dropping out.
I have the 8000HD as well. Any solutions to this problem yet? |

Please put your location in your profile. It'll help us help you.
Try rebooting the STB. See the Digital Home FAQ "Tips for SA STBs" - read the other tips too... If that doesn't help, upgrade to the SA8300HD?

I was one of the first to purchase the unit when it first was made available to the public. So for those concerned about purchasing the device from a store, and having it replaced by Rogers there's no problem in doing so. |

For those interested, my problems with the audio dropping out were alleviated with the SA8300HD. |
