Default HD problems on Rogers

I haven't been watching to much TV lately but last night I was watching Friends and Scrubs on HD NBC and the picture quality was very poor.

The fact the picture was displayed in the guide which is usually black for all the HD channels confirmed my hypothesis!

Anyone know why they are not upconverting or was this just a off night?

I just checked and it's still that way now (Friday 12:30 EDT). Must have a problem with the HD. I haven't noticed this before.

My picture quality is not terrible though, just not HD.

I've also noticed that the CDTV and HDTMN (channel 286, 287 - Rogers Toronto) Logos are now different. No logo on CDTV and a High Def logo on HDTMN.

PS. It's not analogue - it's digital, just not High Def.

Wow, if you're getting the PIP in the guide on an HD channel then for sure you're seeing it in Standard Def for some reason. Maybe the transmitter in Detroit is down. Go to www.avsforum.com you might find some info on this over there

If I remember correctly, it was NBC that mistakenly put the HD feed on a sub-channel and SD on the main channel once before. It took them about a week to figure it out.

Confirmed. Still the same today. Did you notice whether Leno is HD (16:9). I've been away for a week and just got back, so I couldn't check.

I wrote an e-mail to NBC last week on their Detroit website before I left, perhaps you could follow up with them saying the problem still exists 9-10 days later... They've already heard from me and I didn't get any feedback - nothing new there...

I think the issue must be Rogers because I have watched it in HD widescreen on Star Choice this week.

Beer. Thanks for the feedback. I find that writing to the station rather than Rogers gets more "action" (telling the station that I receive them through Rogers Toronto). That way the station and Rogers work things out and they can decide who's to blame. The station has more clout with Rogers than I do and that way I also cover both bases - the station and Rogers.

I contacted Rogers. They are aware of the problem and are working on a repair. As of this evening, the problem was still there.

Beerme - as "57" indicated HDNBC is still broadcasting in standard def  .

I have not contact Rogers but would like thank 57 for looking into this and getting a response from someone who was able to give you a reason for the slip up.

Just to be clear, Beerme confirmed the other day that he gets HDNBC from Detroit in HD, so HDNBC is "broadcasting" in HD. The problem lies with Rogers, not NBC.

Bad news ... unfortunately my call with Rogers did not go as well as 57. They claim there is no problem with HDNBC. I had them check the PIP on HDNBC for confirmation but there response was "its not a HD show" so I said go to another HDCBS, FOX and press PIP and see a black PIP..."yes we see a black PIP" but it still did not sink that there was a problem with HDNBC....arrrgh...... very frustrating conversation.

I think the best solution here folks is to get more calls into Rogers so if you have a few minutes and want this problem solved call them.

with regards to HDABC - pixelation problem they said they are aware and are working on the problem.

I put my call in. The guy I talked to said it was a known issue, and that they were receiving a lot of calls everyday. He said it was a problem with the feed, and not Rogers. I pointed out to him that the exact same problem had occured in late December and that people in Detroit were receiving HD feed from the same station.

I asked him about HDCDTV and he informed me that when CityTV gets up and running, it will become HDCITY.
