Noah12, just to clarify if you don't mind, when you say your 630 is 22 Celsius, is that based on going in via the hidden menus to read the temperature? Or is that more of an ambient reading?

Options-4-9-7-7-1 (9-7-7 will be hidden), then press the left arrow button once. The temperature of the drive is under the word "Internal".

The drive is not the issue. 2.5" drives produce very little heat and the 630's drive is just above the fan (which runs all the time.) The main heat producer in the 630 is the main chip in the center of the unit, toward the rear. (That's where the warm spot on the bottom is.) There are vent holes just above it but no active cooling. That makes airflow above the 630 important in order to keep it cool.

That temperature's quite low relatively speaking. It's good to have a yardstick. Thanks for posting that Noah.

If your receiver is anywhere close to being hot to the touch it is not normal and needs to be replaced. Something is very wrong with it and more importantly this can be a fire issue as well. I have 6 of the 630s and all of them are at a normal running temperature you would expect from any modern equipment.
