Still no SD or microSD. Why? Is it so they can keep charging $50 for an extra 8GB of memory? I am sure they know people would rather spend $30 on a 32GB SD card.

SD allows people to more easily move their own content on to the device. Given that Amazon is only selling these as portals to their own content, it makes sense that they will try and make any design changes that would encourage people to use their services for content.

Several bloggers are reporting that Amazon has invited them to a major press conference on Sept 6. The subject is not known, but the Kindle Fire 2 announcement seems like a good bet.

Wow, $50/year for 250MB/month of data on the FireHD! With a fullsized screen too. The dataplan is a real game changer, and the tablet itself is decently equipped. But IIRC, they don't really cater to Canada...anyone know if we might ever see this?

Doesn't look like if (if MobileSyrup is correct.
Also, looks like users will be subjected to ads on the lockscreen of all the new Kindle Fire devices (SOURCE) -- although I'm sure that will be bypassed by the modding community pretty quick. I will say though, that the pricing for the Kindle Fire devices really is competitive. Given that Google is barely able to make a profit on the 16GB Nexus 7, it's clear that Amazon is taking a loss on these that they expect to gain from their eBook and video marketplace. |
