I found a DVD recorder at Future Shop (a Mitsubishi), that has a hard-to-find firewire input. But I'd like one with a built-in VCR as well. Do they even make those and would anyone have any idea where I could get one?

I have an older version of this Philips DVD VCR Recorder with Firewire.
I also have a Hard-drive DVD Recorder by Sony that has firewire, which I prefer.

I may want to buy it, but I can't find the "shop" page on the Canadian site.
PS: Does Your Sony have a VCR and is it still manufactured? |

Just checked out the Sony and it appears they no longer sell any recorders. It doesn't have a VCR in it, but at the price of VCR's if you can find them they are almost affordable as a one time use item now.
My Sony is a RDR-HXD890, here is a review on it you maybe able to find a used one. Maybe someone here at the Digital Home Forum has another suggestion for an alternative that has firewire, as it appears that you need to go outside of Canada now to find DVD VCR recorders.

I found a DVD recorder/VHS combo online at Future Shop which has DVI inputs. [Toshiba DVD Recorder/VHS Combo (DVR620)] Is that the same as firewire?
Also, would a combo unit produce a better recording than hooking up a seperate VCR? |

No DVI and Firewire are different and that doesn't have a DVI Input. It has HDMI, Component, DV, Composite and S Video.

And the DV is the firewire. At least it is on my Pioneer, which I use for making dvds from my camcorder tapes.

AndrewL., that unit, the DVR620 does have "DV Input" or IEE1394 Firewire, it has HDMI up converted output.
It will probably give you as clean a transfer as possible from VHS to DVD, not that they are great or anything, but it does allow for archiving family movies etc.

Are you sure you didn't add it twice?
