There is a major Fibreop TV outage in Halifax today, though internet and phone seem to work. Never had an issue like this with Eastlink. I wonder what would be affecting so many users and only with TV. Hope this is not a long outage and that this does not happen too often.
Moderator's Note: There are on-going problems. Don't reboot your Set Top Boxes until you've read this thread. If you have recordings that seem to be blank, don't delete them. They should play properly once the problems are fixed. Last edited by Dr.Dave; 2012-06-24 at 10:26 AM. Reason: Added Note |

I am in Dieppe, NB and the TV seems to be down here also. Internet working fine. The Aliant.net website has also been down most of the day from what I can tell.
UPDATE: tv seems to be back up here now. |

It is back up now but their website and twitter do not provide any explanation of what the matter was or why it was so widespread.

Hopefully it was an upgrade they were working on and we can get some more channels.

If it was an upgrade they probably would have done it late at night when few people are awake, and also probably would have given some notice.
Since they apologized for it on their Facebook page, I suspect this was something going wrong. |

It was a power issue here in Saint John. Apparently Saint John Energy or NB Power were doing work uptown and something went wrong.

I believe in a previous discussion thread it mentioned that Uptown Saint John is where all the TV servers are housed, the downside of having everything situated in one location
So like Nelak mentiond power issue in SJ and everyone watching TV via Aliant in Atlantic Canada feels it. Thank goodness the internet isn't designed this way. One would have thought they would have a decent backup generator. |

After the outage yesterday my wife asked me to order a theme pack from the Aliant website.
When we ordered a theme pack a few weeks ago the channels appeared almost instantly but this time they never appeared. I tried calling Aliant last night with no luck. So this morning I checked to see if the theme pack loaded up over night(and they did't) so we decided to look at a recorded PVR program and all I got was a black screen when I pressed play. I tried another TV in the house and it was the same black screen when I pressed play. I'm not sure if I should try resetting the system or not ?? One thing I did notice is under Settings/General/System Info/System Resources it says... "Disk Status : Not Present" (disk usage 75% remaining)....not sure if this is normal ? It sounds to me like I might have another faulty PVR(it has already been replaced once). I'm not having much luck with FibreOP.....its been a disaster from the time the techs arrive to install it and I think they've been back 4 or 5 times in my first month. I thought eventually the bugs would get worked out but now I'm starting to wonder. I'm thinking I probably should have went with Eastlink as I think it's a more proven technology and better programming. All the Best,Dave Last edited by Dr.Dave; 2012-06-24 at 10:18 AM. Unless they've changed things adding a theme pack to your account is actually a manual process, it just depends on when you request it whether it gets fulfilled quickly. (If there's a back log, etc).
As for playing the recorded show did it record during the Great Outage of 2012? Otherwise looking at the information like you did on the non-PVR receiver would have yielded that result (no disk present but still usage information). Finally your Eastlink comment... that is certainly an option. Do be aware that their multiroom PVR isn't the same as Bell Aliant. You can't do everything on a non-PVR receiver that you can on the PVR. |

My TV is still down (Halifax). I tried calling CS but gave up after 40min on hold. Hope this gets fixed soon.

Dave,
I had the same problem. I tried watching a recorded show this morning and all I got was a black screen. It must have something to do with the outage. I still don't have TV...I tried doing a system restart but after 30min it just says no network access. |

I can now confirm this as well. I can also say that it was working last night (I was watching recorded episodes of Pop Up Video). My hunch is that the DRM functionality is somehow involved here... and may not be working properly... just a guess though. Microsoft keeps Mediaroom details pretty slim unless you pay them gobs of money, and even then...

Seem to be having same issue. Able to watch PVR last night but same shows today are just a black screen. Internet seems fine. Had TV but made the mistake of resetting the box and now just at the FibreOp start up screen.
