I just bought a new 2012 Panasonic 65" VT50. It is on back order and I will not be receiving it until the first or second week in July. My question has to do with the HDMI handshaking issues or non-issue here. My Panny comes with a component input and HDMI inputs. Also my Shaw Motorola DCT 6416 III has a HDMI output capability. If anybody knows of any issues and work arounds concerning any possible issues I may have then let me know. If of course there are issues and no work arounds then I can always go back to using component cables. By the way I will be connecting my cable box directly into my Panny since my AV receiver does not have any HDMI inputs or outputs. I will of course probably get a new AV receiver in the future. Also while on the subject of the Panasonic Plasma. I will be getting it ISF’d. Do I still have to wait until a 100 hour burn-in before I can get this service done to my new Panny?

Here's the FAQ on Burn/Break-in - the latter discussed near the bottom of the FAQ. You don't have to wait, but read the FAQ why most people do wait a bit.

We have a 55" GT50 and haven't noted any HDMI issues with our slightly aged Onkyo SR 508. I've had a Shaw portal box connected directly to the panny as well as via my SR508 through a 35 foot good quality HDMI cable - no issues at all.
Placement of the audio return HDMI connector is such that a right angle adapter is probably warranted if you are wall mounting and/or have a very thick/inflexible HDMI cable. Such adapters (if pointed down) will also block HDMI 3 and 4. |

Thanks 57 and Tandem for your prompt replies. Now I feel better about my purchase. It cost a bit, but heck, you only live once. I will be setting up my Panny on a very nice TV stand made especially for LCD and Plasma televisions. So wall mounting won't be an issue.
