Default Bluray player from US

I will be vacationing to the US this summer and am I considering picking up a brand name bluray player from Best Buy or other electronics retailer to take advantage of significantly lower prices and associated taxes.

Since most US players like Panasonic and Sumsung come preloaded with applications to on-line services such as Pandora, Hulu etc. that are not available in Canada what will happen when I connect a US based player to the internet?

Will it just ignore the applications that are prohibited to Canadians but still allow me to access Netflix, Youtube and services offered here?

Not sure if any of you have experience with such units.

I realize that I will be voiding the warranty but its a chance I am willing to take in order to avoid paying rip-off Canadian prices.

How much are you really going to save? The Sony 380 is $69 at Costco and Sears, and $59 online at bestbuy.

I'd say your services will be looking at your IP and you will get the "We're sorry but this service is not available in your country".

To help the OP, will the unit update firmware with Canadian services?

I am looking at the higher end 3D models that offer 7.1 audio out.
For example there is close to $150 difference between US and Canada on the Panasonic DMP-BDT500.
Add the PST and GST and it starts to add up.

You won't have access to those services blocked in Canada. Otherwise, it will work just fine. Netflix should work if you log in with your Canadian account.

VPN services to allow Canadians to access sites like Hulu. A US account is usually still needed though.

Hi. Did you purchase the DMP500 in the USA? If so, did Netflix Canada work for you?

My Netflix Canada account works fine on the Sony Blu-Ray player I bought in North Dakota last January.
