Smile Av Receiver Questions

hello everyone I am somewhat of a newbie when it comes to AV Receivers.
I currently have a Pioneer Vsx d814 Receiver, I am currently running 7.1. I have two tower speakers with one 12 inch,4 inch, and 1 inch tweeter. Center channel is two 6.5 inch with .75inch tweeter and four surround speakers 6.5 inch woofer and 1 inch tweeter. The Receiver I have does not have any HDMI inputs, I am currently considering two different models and needs some help. 1.Pioneer VSX 921k and Pioneer VSX 1126k.
The 1126k is a future shop exclusive model

The quality of sound depends on many factors but typically the biggest factor in determining the quality of sound is your speakers.

With mediocre speakers, you'll get mediocre sound regardless of whether you hook up a $200 receiver or a $2,000 receiver.

Difference between a $400 and $800 A/V Receiver is typically features (more inputs etc) and amplification (more wattage). More wattage does not mean better sound, just the ability to amplify the sound in larger rooms.

You indicated that sound quality is a priority. Do some research on the benefits/features of MCACC and Audyssey MultiEQ XT in performing equalization of your speakers and sub.

Here's an FAQ to ensure the AVR has the features you need, but it sounds like both AVRs have most of these...

thanks you guys for all your help, but i have one more question...for both of the receiver i am considering here are the specs can someone help me understand what they mean.....
pioneer vsx 921 k
Amplifier Section
Continous average power output of 80 watts per channel, min,at 8ohms,from 20 hz to 20 000 hz with no more than 0.008% total harmonic distortion.
Front (stereo) 80W+80W
Power consumption 500W

Pioneer vsx 1126 k
Continous average power output of 110 watts per channel, min,at 8ohms,from 20 hz to 20 000 hz with no more than 0.008% total harmonic distortion.
continous power output (20 hz to 20 khz, 8ohms,0.08%)
Front 110w+110W
Center 110w
Surround 110W+110W
Surround Back (front height/wide) 110w+110W
Power Consumption 570W

The 921 does not list all the channel, so does that mean that it would not output the stated watts per channel and the power consumption for both receivers are close, does the power consumption have anything to do with output power?

Here's a previous discussion regarding "Watts", which is a spec that most people should ignore...

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/show...ighlight=Watts Post 2

Power consumption numbers should be ignored since they have no value. The AVR will use very few Watts when listening to most programming.

Isn't that what you asked post #1.

Default rookie needs some help

I am a rookie when it comes to home theatre setup. I have installed and wired in 5.1 surround in my basement, with all of the speakers wires fed to a media closet. I have also wired in 2 speakers upstairs in my sitting room (for a tv) along with several other speakers upstairs with volume switches. I have HDMI connections all running from the TV's to the media closet (which is also where my shaw gateway hubs will be connected).

What I want is to be able to buy one receiver that will play 5.1 surround sound in the basement at the same time as playing the sound for my tv upstairs (without breaking the bank). I was told the Onkyo TX-NR609 would do this, but when I look now I see that the Pioneer VSX 1122 might be a good fit.

Advice?
