The grid guide is better all the way around in 7.0.4. No 'blanking' and no missing info along with much faster navigation but we are now being held hostage while Shaw contemplates when to give it to us.

My vote is; just do it, NOW!

Yup Jetranger, was just thinking the same thing, pay off the easypay accounts, cancel all services, and put everything up on craigslist.....

Especially given that I noticed with my DCX3400, if you aren't hooked up to active cable, there doesn't appear to be any way to watch existing recordings on the box. I wonder if that's the same for the gateway....?

ps, in you signature, what's this "If you want more then ask for it rather than going hungry. If you want more than I have then you should ask. They're going to park their car over there" all about, ditto for other tags I've seen on your posts.

Golf Crazy, that's one of the few issues I've NOT seen in the approx year I've had the gateway installed. However I don't use the guide all that much as I've already got so much recorded to watch. My wife uses the guide more than I do and I'd have heard about that problem if it was occuring, she's quite vocal with gateway problems that way

sibble-comp, it's just my own small attempt at correcting the all too common misuse of those words. The 'they're' one was actually suggested by a fellow member here (you know who you are) but he didn't want to be given credit. I had a different sentence for those but I liked his better so I used it.

My parents were both educators when I was a child so I got this kind of stuff drilled into me and now I can't help myself from trying to point it out when people use the wrong words. I know this is likely a bigger problem for me than for anyone else. I have had some interesting PMs on the subject from like minded members so I don't feel as bad as I probably should.

*Now, back to our regular scheduled programming...*

Default Yes Shaw please update now!

The Gateway Guide is beyond useless and frustrating. I also wish they would just push out the update regardless of the Olympics. If it's ready, just do it and take away my pain!

Cheers,

Well founded rumours have it that guide issues may be a thing of the past with this new release and for that reason alone I'm willing to be a guinea pig and test it right the heck now. Our family users don't care about new features at this point, we just want a reliable guide function.

I can't imagine how this product ever got released without a working guide. No doubt there are interesting stories as to how that happened and what the root cause is.

@JetRanger, that is interesting that you are seeing the sound/audio issues on other Shaw boxes too. I don't have duplicate recordings on my backup 3400 to compare with so you could be right that this is not specific to Gateway. In the past, I've had Gateway specific video issues (tested with duplicate 3400 recordings) but that may no longer be the case now. It is still Shaw's responsibility in many cases though since many of the problems I've seen are on Shaw owned channels so they are the source as well was the distribution company for those (MC, History, etc.). Perhaps I should post these issues in the non-Gateway forum and see if it is more widespread for more customers with increasing frequency.

@tandem, I've got to agree with you there on the guide. That really is amazing that it was released as it was and it has taken so long to fix (assuming we get the fix). I can't see how they can blame that one on dealing with unique Shaw infrastructure either. Should be just communication between Gateway and portal I would think.

The update is ready to go, they just got messed up with the fires. Their people are spread all over the place and I'm guessing they want to get their stuff together and people 'settled' before making any more changes. The 'Olympics' thing could just be an excuse but if it is, it's a lame one.

I suddenly have 6 new channels in my guide list. 6 channels I do not watch.

I wish they would change how "favourites" are done. I like the Pace box. I could make multiple "favourites" lists. I didn't have to remove channels from the guide.

And did you notice, if you do remove channels from "Channel List"......you can not access them AT ALL. *puzzled blink* To see them they have to appear in there.

I do not like how "Favourites" is handled on the Gateway at all. It's clunky. You do not want clunky in a UI!

As the days go on, I am finding myself watching less and less TV. I'm playing Deus EX/games, listening to music, taking walks and riding my bike along the coast with my friends and their kids. You know, living, rather than sitting idle.

I like how the new channels appear in the guide. It means that I don't have to check for them.

If they had multi-favs like the Pace box I would agree, it's handy to know what's been added. It sucks as is though.

along with GamerGuy, I too find myself watching less tv these days because of the Gateway UI. My wife, on the other hand, seems unfazed

I just don't find it an enjoyable experience any more. I find myself getting mad as I watch tv. Why can't I do this...why can't I do that?!..why does the guide take five seconds to load...why aren't the buttons I press being acknowledged in any way... Ah screw it, I'll go read a book.
I guess it's good and bad, eh?

But I'm paying these guys 200 dollars a month. It really is unacceptable. I wish I was more motivated to get on their case to change it.

Again, I'm making a huge mistake here in putting my hope in the next update. But I have. Please make it better...please!

todddd, I too share your frustrations with the Gateway.

One thing that you can do to get acknowledgment of button presses is to go into Settings | Sound Effects
(yes, that's right Sound Effects. Intuitive, isn't it?)
and you can specify how loud you want the press acknowledgement to be. These acknowledgements work most of the time.
(You didn't expect consistency, did you? )

What I find interesting (or perhaps disturbing) is that most I have talked to have no huge complaints (I am activly monitoring 7 systems across the city of Calgary(friends, family and neighbors)
The "guide" issues that most describe here are not even mentioned..
Though I have noticed the delay in getting guide data to load, to me its not a really big deal, as I rarely need to look for something to watch, everything I need is recorded.
Those who I have taked to are in the same situation.
Though most were unaware of the "Channels" guide under the menu. (IMO that is the only guide that works right)
I am comming to the conclusion that most complaints are either just picky persons in general (the word anal comes to mind) or are totaly unaware of how to actualy use their hardware..
It has to be something like that, or there are some instalations that are flakey to start with..
All I can report is that there are no issues to report here...(Strange eh?)
I wonder if there were a number of different "builds" on the gateway itself, as mine was one that was "bricked" but both my neighbors were fine...
Maybe we need to look at the build data more closely, perhaps we can find a common build that is particularily bad...dunno...
