TVO wanted too much money for Bell to continue to offer it nationally. It's not a great loss any more as its programming has gone downhill in the last few years but it is still a loss.

Thanks for the replies.
BTW, I contacted TVO and they advised that they are negotiating with Shaw Direct. Guess they have given up with Bell (or the other way around). Sad, isn't it, that my bill keeps going up and the stations that I watch are getting fewer. Oh well, there are always the 9000+ different CBC stations I can access |

This is insane. Rates are going up and a station with good British content like Midsummer Murders, Victorian Farms, Time Team etc disappear.
Totally unacceptable. |

The rates would have gone up even more if TVO was still being offered by Bell across Canada. Evidentally they asked for much more than before. They of course is not really TVO. It's cash starved Ontario which has to try to wring every cent possible out of their assets. Bell obviously felt that TVO especially in SD only just wasn't a major sell outside of Ontario. I disagree but I accept this a business decision.

The logic escapes me. So, now instead of getting some money from Bell TVO gets nothing. And they think they are further ahead because??? Precedent? Probably not since they are not flogging a bunch of other channels.
Guess it must be like the landlords here in our small community who would rather see a storefront sit empty for years rather than lowering the rent. I do miss the brit shows. I get BBC-Canada as well ... but they seem to be loaded up with a lot of Canadian stuff |

They do have to be concerned about the precedent because they want something from Shaw (and maybe other providers outside Ont.). |

I would suggest those missing TVO outside of Ontario should complain directly to Bell.

@jase88: I think you misunderstood my comments. I have nothing against the government of Ontario for trying to make some money from carriage of TVO outside Ontario. Until 5 years ago when I retired I worked for that same government. What I was trying to say was that it wasn't a TVO management decision but rather it was part of the current strategy of Ontario to raise money it desperately needs. In brief don't blame TVO. It goes way beyond their purview.

Well, I'm quite certain it's up to TVO to negotiate their own carriage with BDU's, and not the province. And with federal cutbacks on CBC funding, I wouldn't be surprised if TVO is preparing itself financially for a similar cutback in funding from Ontario.

Oh TVO is doing the negotiating but they are just the messenger. They're just following the current policy of the Ontario government.
Anyway this is a bit OT. What surprises me is that the originator of this thread wasn't aware that TVO was being cut. It was posted on our bills several months ago. |

^^^ It's actually difficult to find discussion from either Bell or TVO online regarding this issue. If someone has a link, I'd appreciate if you could post it.
