So, im interested in how things are planned overseas, what aerials you use, what percularities you have, even reception tricks that may not have work their way down here yet.
Teach me the ways of your OTA TV world, and in return I'll post the equivalent situation for FTA TV (yep, never called OTA here - learning already Some basics to get us started: Switchover for all services is end of 2013, staggered by region before that date, my area's switchover for example is 5th June 2012. DVB-T, MPEG-2 7Mhz Bandwidth VHF and UHF are in use Horizontal and Vertical polarisation in use All services for an area are co-located on one tower or site. Most areas have 5 TV stations, 3 commercial (in regional areas these are all affiliates of metro stations, with minor programming differences), 2 government. Each station carries 2 or 3 multichannels, in addition to the main channel. Large areas of Australia (but with relatively small population proportion) rely on our regular FTA channels carried over satellite. Ive never seen an aerial rotor! |

Please read the following "welcome" thread. It has all the OTA information you'll need as a start.

Im a qualified electronics technician (and spend alot of my time installing/repairing aerial/distribution systems), so most of the stuff in that thread/links is relatively easily deduced, or I already knew. This thread is as much about the differences between our DTV systems/technologies as the similarities. And not so much the basics, as the technical and organisational details.
If you feel there is no place for this thread, then feel free to close it (and no hard feelings (Sorry if you were being helpful, but being pointed to a FAQ on most forums usually means youve started an uneeded thread :P ) |

@nbound-au: All moderators do their best to be helpful.
Stampeder has done lots of work over the years to explain North American OTA with his FAQs. We insist you go through them. They start with this link. http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=41102 They are very detailed and should answer the questions you listed in your opening post. If not, you can ask a specific question with a new thread in the main OTA forum, or search the forum to see if we've addressed the issue before. Cheers, downbeat P.S. This thread is closing. |
