I currently have both a 6131 and 6141 with ext HDD hooked up now both work fine in recording shows but here is the problem i am having.
When i setup to record a show on a weekly basis say The First 48 which comes on Thursdays at 9pm. Now if i set up to record only "New" episodes it will record all of them and that show has over 300 episodes (seems like its more new to the receiver than actual new episode) So if i set it to weekly at the said time 9pm that's fine but it will record a repeat if their isn't a new episode. Worst part sometimes on A&E they like to run back to back new episodes. How do i work around this? Am i missing something or did Bell/Dish Network drop the ball on limitations for the PVR? I Have Played with Directv DVR before and it would handle this perfect any suggestions?

First of all the programming info needs to be set correctly (i.e. new/old episode tags) for your PVR to function properly. I believe that if you set up a season recording the PVR will record an episode by default if the tags are missing.
I was also under the impression that "new" episodes - if tagged properly - will only record episodes in the current season.

You don't. The company that does the program schedule and program info does.

Which means that if the IPG information is incorrect, which it sometimes (often?) is, then it doesn't work as "intended".

I would really like to see Bell add an option to timers, to skip any program that does not have an air date listed. It shouldn't be that hard to do, I assume they are using a database driven guide, therefore, all that needs to be done is add a checkbox that adds an extra condition to the query.
I have noticed that since switching over from Shaw, my receiver is clogged with old episodes of stuff, as Bell assumes if no air date is specified, it must be new, quite annoying, especially on Pass timers. Sadly, the guide information is not a Bell problem, but whichever company supplies the data(Tribune?). - M |

But what happens if there is no air date and it is a new episode? You would miss the show. Most people would rather that they delete the episode that they watched already then not see an episode because the PVR did not record it.

That's why it should be an option, not a default setting.
For me personally, everything I record has new air dates, but older episodes do not, hence the problem. I could end up having new episodes being deleted before I see them, just because there were a few old episodes shown without air dates listed. - M |

But what it the guide was wrong and you missed a new episode that did not have the air date on it?

wonder who is responsible for inputting that data, the channel or Bell? Never seen that with Directv. Kind of sucks as my receiver is allways busy recording shows i have seen or not interested in as they are 3 years old lol. One day i will have to grab me a new dual PVR

@Chrome69
A third party company provides the bulk guide data to the providers, I know Shaw uses a company called Tribune, at least they used to when I worked for them. I would assume Bell uses someone else, as I have noticed that Shaw had much more accurate guide info(FYI, DirecTV is one of Tribunes clients for data). @DSgamby I keep up to date with my recordings, it would be easier to restore a single skipped event, than manually skip the multitude of junk entries with no air date. Example, Bell guide stores 9 days, a search for "The Simpsons" returns 275 entries, narrowed a bit by HD option, a VuPass for this would still create in excess of 25 useless recordings due to entries with no air date specified. - M |

Yes for you but most people do not keep up with their recordings.

Again, the point of making it an option, not a default. I'm sure not everyone would use it, however, there will probably be a bunch of people that say: "Hey, that's a great idea!" The issue does not overly affect new episodes of stuff, this is mainly an issue with older seasons, where the data is just not present.

Absolutely, otherwise, majority of laypeople would be too daft to figure it out.
