Well there is. Spurs and Arsenal have important games as well. If they win, they make Champions League. If not, Newcastle can catch them. There are more fans of those teams in Canada than Bolton. Champions League battles almost always take precedence, on both sides of the ocean. I'd be shocked if their games aren't on Sportsnet, as well as United's game.
Remember, we have it better than Britain. Only the United and City games are on live TV there. Everything else will have to wait hours for highlights on BBC. As for Speed. In the US, every game is live on TV or online. Bolton, Spurs, Arsenal etc. are likely are on Fox Soccer, Fox Soccer +, FSN etc. So it's not like Speed are choosing it over other matches, more that's what they are left with. That game will probably be blacked out anyway, if I had to guess. |

I think Speed will show the Bolton game. Give them a few days to update their listing.

I am glad that I will have access to DISH network on Sunday as all the Canadian sports channel owners obviously have no idea of the implications of the games. I know I started this thread but even then I could see this happening two weeks ago.

Hi Josh,
Of course we have it better than Britain but that is hardly the point. Here's why: This Sunday is a complete set of fixtures. It is a hangover (in the interests of fair play) from when the complete set of fixtures used to all be at 3pm on a Saturday. There are STILL no live 3pm TV games on a Saturday in the UK so as not to deter paying spectators from going to a match. The showing of the City game and the Sunderland game this Sunday in the UK is a generous concession (irony intended) from that principle. The Spurs and Arsenal games are already scheduled here in Canada, I have not suggested taking them off. But the topic of this thread is "Survival Sunday". It is recognised as important - e.g. SPEED for example are sharing the broadcast of a show called "Survival Sunday" at noon ET. Sportsnet have 6 channels distributed nationally three are currently spare, so there is no shortage of scope to add both the Bolton and Newcastle games. If 10 games are available on US TV, I see no contractual reason why 7 games cannot be shown on Sportsnet (6) and TSN2 (1), leaving SPEED to cover the meaningless Swansea game for their Canadian supporter, no need to spite him with a blackout. Edit: Scouser, yes you called it right. Enjoy watching SPEED (I assume). |

It depends on how many different games Sportsnet wants to show. They have six channels and TSN2 will have a game too. Stoke v Bolton is easily one of the top seven matches, but not necessarily in the top four.

We quite simply don't know what the technical limitations of how many games Sportsnet can show at a time.
As for Sky, they only saved two broadcast windows for the last day. Last season they had saved 3. So, they aren't necessarily capped at two. We are getting 4 live games, maybe 5 (yes I know Liverpool is meaningless). Just a few years ago we'd be lucky to get two. And to be honest, we don't know we're only getting 4-5. Sportsnet hasn't released anything official yet. |

Technology is moving on, customer demand has increased, expectations have changed. Social media, forums like this and influential blogs are watched and monitored by large media corporations. If we want every game covered, surely we should express our aspiration. I am sure you don't want less football on TV so I am not sure of your point here. Watch TSN2. |

My point is sometimes it's best to be thankful for what you do have, instead of always asking for more.
As far as US TV goes, I'm not sure it is a fair comparison either. America has more people and more TV channels than we do. In Ireland there are 3 games on (2 Sky, 1 Setanta). In Australia there are two on TV and one online. While America may have it best, we are still getting more games than other English-speaking countries where the league is more popular. It's not that I want less soccer on TV, per say. More so that the Sportsnet regional channels are effectively one channel, with four sub-feeds. Not everybody gets all four. Is it really fair to let viewers in Ontario get Arsenal, while viewers in Alberta would get a less-relevant match like Newcastle or Chelsea? It is a lot harder to sell ads for a Bolton game than a Arsenal game as well. Truth be told I'd put Sunderland v Man United on World, West Brom v Arsenal on Ontario/Pacific, Spurs v Fulham on East/West and Stoke v Bolton on One. Whether they will do that, nobody knows. I'm not sure what you mean by your last comment. Sportsnet hasn't released what games they will show on Sunday yet. Your guess is as good as mine as to what they will do. My point was don't judge them off actions they haven't taken yet. |

Just Checked the schdure of Speed TV on Survival Sunday, they said they will air Chelsea v. Blackburn instead of Stoke v. Bolton, no other matches were announced from other FOX Stations yet

Sportsnet has never shown more than 3 live Premier League (or Champions League) matches at a time. It is possible they can't get the feeds for any more than that. Although I suppose that is moot this week considering they could use US feeds.

Sportsnet are the major partner in premierleaguelive.tv, which show every non TSN game, so they certainly do get feeds which would enable them to show more than 3 games on Sunday.

Not everyone gets all four Sportsnet feeds. If they did, they wouldn't run identical programming 20 hours a day. So why should Johnny Halifax have to sit through a relegation game he doesn't care about on SN East, while Jimmy BC gets to see Arsenal try & get a CL spot on SN Pacific?
The comparisons to the US are foolish as they have a much bigger football audience, and more channels to play with as opposed to up here. Rogers could use some of the other channels they own, but I doubt it would be worth it for them. I want as much live football on TV as anybody else on here, but it's not always doable. Back when I lived in Australia (and to clarify what someone posted earlier) I had the choice of watching every single game, every single week, in HD on Fox Sports Australia. I pushed the little red button on my remote and up popped little screens with every live game going on and I simply chose what I want to watch. Sure, I was disappointed to not that have that option here, and having to watch the same five teams every week, but that's just how it is here, and it's a lot more than other countries get. I'm just grateful for what I can get. And internet streams. |
