I have had to a reset (where I hold the power button for more than 10 seconds OR unplug the box if holding the power button is unresponsive) several times in the past 5 months to my main PVR and once to two other STBs - when the PVR or the STB is not recognized by my TV (it's as if the unit isn't even plugged in).
It takes several minutes to power it back up again and initialize/re-load the PVR recordings. Does anyone know if this is a known issue? I am not sure if this is the result of a dropped signal or if this is a hardware or software issue. It happened this morning on my PVR unit, and when I re-booted, it downloaded an update! I wonder if that's the fix to the 'recording not available' issue? Hmmmm.... |

Basically what happens is that when you are connected in through HDMI, it's a digital connection so the tv can send signals to the box and back. The TV will tell the box 'I'm off turn yourself off'. What happens, especially with the older models, is the TV will lag at doing this and the box will lag back and the whole thing gets messed up and the box is off but the TV is on.
They are three ways you can fix this. One is to find some setting on the box to stop this. I couldn't find one on mine , but I may have just not noticed. The other way is to switch to component video (for HD). (you know the one with the red, green, and blue cables along with the two for audio or toslink depending on what you want). Since component is analog the TV cannot communicate with the box (and if it did the picture will stop while it is doing that). If you do it this way you must make sure to turn off the box manually as the TV may still run while the TV is off. amazon (canada) sells them for about 9 bucks. The last way is make sure your Telus remote is programmed with your TV and leave it in STB mode and when you press the power button it will turn on or off BOTH of the TV and Box. This may be your problem too. You may turn off your TV then quickly turn off both using the Telus remote. Also, avoid turning on just the TV alone and then the STB. Turning on the TV alone then going to DVD mode (or anything else) is fine. |
