Coming in June to HBO- Aaron Sorkin's The Newsroom.
I think I just found my new favourite show, and I havent seen an episode yet! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wC8ovJYAU3U I loved, The West Wing, and the shortlived Studio 60... hopefully the show will fill the summer void.

Title lifted from Ken Finkleman's The Newsroom?
And plot lifted from the movie Network? Nah! Actually, it's another depiction of the frustrating world of modern television news. And it definitely looks interesting, especially with Bill Pullman in the lead. He delivered a credible performance in the miniseries "Torchwood: Miracle Day" and is becoming a highly versatile dramatic actor, a far cry from his "Dumb and Dumber" days. |

I think you're looking for Jeff Daniels, not Bill Pullman.

Okay, I just checked their respective pictures.
Are they related? Anyway, Hollywood Star Identification FAIL!!! I'll watch at least the first couple of episodes. Hopefully, it's a series with a predetermined ending. I can't watch "long term" television series anymore because most get cancelled after 6 episodes, robbing you of a proper ending. |

Just finished watching the first 2 episodes. Really good so far. Stars Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, Sam Waterston and mmmm Olivia Munn.
If you like Aaron Sorkin stuff you will like this show. It's already been picked up for a 2nd season. Last edited by 57; 2012-07-04 at 11:45 PM. Reason: Moved to existing thread |

Was not sure what to expect with this show but I like it very much. Seems the only shows I watch these days are on HBO!

Yes, this seems like it's gonna be a great series.
Veep and Girls were also good IMHO. |

Too bad ratings have slipped so much after the first episode, but at least HBO has already picked it up for a second season.

I've also seen the first two episodes of this well-written, well-cast show. As previously stated, if you like Aaron Sorkin's work on the West Wing, you will really like this show.
Finally, smart TV comes back. Heavy on the dialog, this shows doesn't "talk-down" to its viewers. I'm glad to hear that HBO will keep this show going for at least two seasons. I just hope that it stays on HBO, and doesn't get transferred to a networked prime-time channel (ie: ABC, CBS, NBC, etc). Doing so would water it down to the point that it would become irrelevant and "sanitized" for the masses. |

Has any HBO show ever been transferred to a network channel?

Well, CSI (the original) wasn't an HBO show, but it did start off on either Showcase or Bravo (in Canada), then it got popular and CBS (who always owned the rights to it) moved it to the full network. This is what I was referring to in my post.

CSI was always a CBS show. They never moved it to the full network in Canada. That was a CTV decision. It has no baring because CTV isn't the originating channel.
I can't think of any show that jumped from HBO to a USA network. There has been talk in the past of Showtime shows jumping to CBS but they never materialize.

CTV showed the first 2 seasons of The Sopranos a year or so after they premiered on HBO, and they aired it at 10pm so they were able to show all the swears and violence.

I watched the first episode and about 10 minutes of the second but couldn't get in to it. All I see is a bunch of actors acting. I found that "cute as a button" intern character especially hard to take.

I have to admit I still haven't gotten around to watching it yet. Then again, there's a lot of stuff from the last few weeks I haven't watched yet. Been too busy lately.
Maybe I'll watch it next week. |
