I know what you mean BGY.
When I want to see what is on next I check out the guide during commercials. Besides broadcasters announce during the commercials of upcoming shows so no need to show it on the bootom of the screen and blocking captions. But know they are doing that with stuff not realted to the show or channel using it to advertise other stuff. Unreal!!! |

I agree that the broadcasters don't get it. They're making people want to shy away from cable.
If you buy the TV show from itunes there are no ads. There are no on screen ads during the show. The downside is I think an HD show costs about 1.99 an ep (or you can buy a seasons subscription). If you follow 4 or 5 shows, you could subscribe to them via itunes, get a centre ice subscription and you wouldn't need cable Then there's the flip side. Those itunes rentals can be easily pirated, so these tv stations are probably pushing more people towards piracy than anything else. |

TV channels do get it - but they just don't care...
Over the last few years CRTC changed rules for ads per hour from 12 mins, to 15 mins, then 20 mins. Now the snipe ads are somehow allowed to get past that rule... It is all just SPAM and in your face... When did ruining or screwing something up ever interfere with a corporation's greed... |

Annoying as *** as these pop-up ads are appearing more and more during the actual program. Who thought the consumer would be agreeable to this garbage? They have plenty of time during the commercial breaks to advertise whatever they want....leave my program viewing time alone! Ads appearing this way are NOT going to work. And any advertiser who presents this way will NOT get my business. At least on the internet I can use pop-up blockers and AdBlock plus to control some of this, but no way to do that on tv.

Annoying, annoying, annoying. Trying to watch Little Couple tonight and there were pop-ups appearing constantly on the bottom third of the screen advertising upcoming shows.... As if I am not capable in pressing the guide button to see what is up next. And a huge logo in the bottom right hand corner telling me what show I am watching (just in case I can't figure that out). And the words #Little Couple in the top left hand corner. Who decided that this is acceptable? I guess this a precursor to advertisers flaunting their products during the shows with incessant pop-ups? I will boycott any advertiser that does that.

I started to notice the HUGE in-program ad by Shaw
- takes up 1/4 to 1/3 of my 50" screen!! Junk mail flyers, illegal telemarketer phone calls, email spam, internet pop-ups, Billboards blighting the landscape, Forced DVD/Blu-Ray rental previews, It never ends does it I guess our only hope would be for some type of pop-up blocker hack to stop these low life spammers... |

Finally saw one for a car on a CTV show a couple of nights ago. There was a grey area with the banners promoting upcoming shows, because those aren't classed as advertising. They skirt the law with closed captioning billboards. However, trying to sell cars in the middle of a show looks like actual advertising and unless that was offset by removing commercial time in the breaks, there might be a case to be made.
Usually, as in 99% of the time, the networks know exactly what they can put where and I would hazard a guess (haven't been directly involved with Traffic in years) that the lower 1/3rd banners aren't strictly covered or the regulations are vague. Best thing to do is get a hold of CBSC and register a complaint. After that, keep an eye on license renewals and jump through the hoops to have your complaints read into the minutes. DVR's are killing conventional advertising. They'll find a way to pay for the shows in one way or another. |

So I'm trying to watch the movie Contact on AMC and they have some stupid "location notes", "story notes", "casting notes", etc that scroll out at the bottom of the screen from left to right. Really? I'm watching the movie. If I want any background info, I will look it up somewhere. Please stop. Go away. I just want to watch the movie!

AMC shows 2 versions of a movie. One is the normal version and one is Show Notes. Show Notes is what you were watching. I like Story Notes because it tells me stuff about the movie that I already have watched a million times.

So how do I figure out which time slot has the actual movie without the pop-outs? There is nothing in the guide indicating if it is "Show Notes" or just the movie.

The only place I have seen any info regarding that is during the promos for the movie. They say Story Notes.
EDIT: A quick Google search found this http://www.amctv.com/movie-event/story-notes Last edited by DSgamby; 2012-04-18 at 09:48 PM. Reason: Updated info |

Shouldn't have to log onto the internet to find out if a scheduled movie will be with story notes. They could at least put it in the guide info. I can see where I will be saying good-bye to cable tv in the next couple of years if these pop-outs, pop-ups, banner ads, etc stuff continues. Not what I'm paying for. Not my cup of tea.

I don't have AMC on all the time to see the promos for the show. I just check my guide to see what is coming up on all the channels and record or watch live. So, it would be nice to have the info in the guide itself.

I agree that they should have info on the guide.
