Yes very pretty and all those people who worked so hard on it (it was built just a few miles from us!) we couldn't wish for it to fail even tho it means we have to switch to Shaw.

Everything went as planned. This was interesting, thanks everyone for the links.

ILS Communications Team

We have had a successful mission with the ILS Proton Rocket carrying the Nimiq 6 satellite built by Space Systems/Loral. We have had confirmation that the Nimiq 6 satellite separated from the vehicle on schedule at 00:26 a.m. EDT, or 04:26 GMT, 9 hours and 14 minutes after liftoff.

Everything occurred as planned with ignition, shutdown and separation of the Proton’s first three stages. Then the Breeze M upper stage with the satellite continued the mission, igniting five times, and then releasing the satellite into transfer orbit.

Looks like N6 is sitting in a testing position at 140.

I just watched "Daily Planet" on Discovery Channel where they had a 4-5 minute segment on the Nimiq 6 launch including footage of the satellite being prepped in the clean room. It repeats tonight at 11 PM EDT and 7 AM. It should also be on their web site in a few days.

Hi guys, I think I may have asked before, I don't remember.....will this new bird allow for a better PQ? That is less channels per transponder and a higher rate of 15-17 Mbps transmission?

Now that nimiq 6 is in the sky is it fully operational or does that take some time? and will nimiq 1 still be operational for sometime to come or is it completely shut down? The only reason im asking these questions is im wondering how much longer do the people south of the border have to watch Bell TV before the signal is gone.

It is expected to be introduced around July 1st. Now will it be a full 32 Transponders straight away, or a gradual introduction, I have no idea.

This new bird is going to the 91 degree slot, this is typically the SD Channel bird, so until the switch to MPEG4, don't expect more HD Channels.

Less Channels per TP.? I highly doubt it, it will be the exact opposite.

Question

@duster
If you look at the N6 Map if your close to the US/Canadian boarder you won't loose your siggnal.

@Pinza
with this new sat @91 I know it'll be more powerful, but will this only have:
1) SD Channels?
2) will it totally be 8SPK(?)

The reason is I've noticed on BTV that effective June 8 HPI-1(478) &HPI-2(479) will be changing sats)I'm assuming fron N4 to N1/N6.

So in reallity assuming only SD channels are on this bird how many channels can they put on this bird:

without 8SPK=??
with 8SPK=??

Thanks
