It's to do with the angle of projection from the satellite.

A similar thing happens to Dishnetwork's 119 satellite. The higher it goes (82,91,101, 110,119) the further to the west it goes and the further to the east the signal can "leak" or "spill" over.

If the sat was at 61, it would be almost directly above the east coast of North America and therefor could cut almost a straight line down the coastline.

It's all to do with angles, power, etc. etc.

On the topic of satellite on planes like westjet, as I drew in a diagram in this thread or another, westjet may have some issues with USA flights and getting services, unless Bell provides a specific beam for airplane sat tv.
As a US citizen living in the wilds of Northern Ontario, I get a stronger single on 110 and 119 on my Dish sub than I do with the Bell sats. Although, my HD on 129 is touchy.

That just means you need a larger bird catcher for 129

Highly unlikely when it launchs, this is what they want to prevent now. When I was last there a lot of people only had starchoice others has major issues trying to get 91 let alone 82. But may I remind you that account stacking or having accounts where you shouldn't reside or live in is generally not recommended

They are not trying to prevent the South from getting signal. Bell is trying to provide better signal to Northern Canada. By doing this the Southern US loses signal. It's not about stopping Florida and the like from getting signal.

AFF is correct, it is about trying to get a stronger signal in Northern Canada, I have a friend that lives way up North and he needs a 1.2 meter dish to get the 91 sat at decent signal.

I understand that underlying reason, but what has to be understood as it solves the issue of people getting the signal where they really shouldn't get it. Besides getting a stronger signal up north which by all means is a good thing and is the main focus. My post was nearly a reminder that this is part of the issue that will occur once this launch happens

The reception will be stronger and that will be a good thing.

Default Spot beam

If Bell wants to do this, they could put a spot beam just for the people in Florida but I think that they are far away from doing that. They keep calling people to check the receivers in houses, so I doubt very much that they will spot beam Florida.

So I guess that I'll have to move on to Shaw soon. I spent 3 months down south and I don't want to miss my TV.

Will we have to adjust our dish once nimiq 6 is operational?

No, the satellite will move into the same orbital position.

What about Nevada for example , I know the footptint for nimiq 6 will no longer reach Nevada but if you do some tweaking of the dish might you get some sort of signal?

If the footprint does not reach you will get no signal, no matter how much 'tweaking' you do.
