Zack,

91 is now stronger than 82 (used to be the opposite), and most HD is carried on 82.

Question

I can't see why N4 is weaker then N6? N4 is opnly maybe a few years older then N6(less then five years).

Now grant you I don't know the type of sat N4 is compared to N6, but you would of thought they'd use the same type or the most powerful sat you can make?

Still at least you won't totally get rain fade. You still get it if the rain fall is heavy enough but a general rain storm you should be fine as long as it not at the uplink center.

So unless something goes troublely wrong Telsat won't need to replace N4,N5,N6 for a good 10-12 years as all of them are from 1-6 years old.

Too funny, just going through the second "Loss Of Signal" in less than 2 hours. Good God Bell, invest in another Uplink Station.

Also wanted to know how old is the 82 bird.

Default Q!

Guess everyone is happy with the new bird......just not happy with Bell further digging into my pocketbook. Gotta recoup them costs somehow!

Question

^ Only one catch!!

Bell doesn't own N1-6 Sat's they are owned by Telesat. BTV only lease the TRS on N4/N6.

Telesat is owned by Shaw Communications, don't blame BTV/Bell Media blame Telesat/Shaw Communications for charging BTV so much to lease the TRS.

Sorry MCIBUS, Telesat is not owned by Shaw. They used to be owned by Bell until a few years back and sold off to another sat company and Pension Board.

Wiki knows all...

Quote:
On October 5, 2007 Loral Space & Communications Inc. and the Public Pension Investment Board of Canada received the final regulatory approval necessary to complete the acquisition of Telesat from BCE Inc. for CAD $3.25 billion. The acquisition closed on October 31, 2007, with Loral owning 64 percent of Telesat.

At the same time, Telesat Canada merged with Loral Skynet, a subsidiary of Loral Space & Communications. Loral Skynet was a full-service global satellite operator headquartered in Bedminster, New Jersey. This resulted in the transfer of all of the assets of Loral Skynet to Telesat.

The company is now the fourth-largest fixed satellite services provider in the world. It owns a fleet of 13 satellites, has one other satellite under construction, and operates 13 additional satellites for other entities.

Telesat carries Canada's two major DBS providers signals: Bell TV and Shaw Direct, as well as more than 200 of Canada's television channels.

Telesat's Anik F2 carries a 'Spot Beam' KA band payload for satellite Internet access for users in the United States (Wildblue) and tens of thousands of users in Canada (Xplornet).[1][2] The KA band system uses 'Spot Beams' to manage bandwidth concerns, linking to multiple satellite ground stations connected to the Internet.

What a great thread! Loads of great info has been shared, when I first posted the launch I had no idea that a lot of people here would be so interested in this topic. From the early days of C band to now I have always been interested in satellites, probably because in rural areas it was the only option of receiving more than one channel. To everyone that has responded thank you. To the powers that be at digital home thank you for allowing this. Cheers

Well after some intense rain showers I have noticed an improvement. I still lose signal on a 20" dish but I find it takes longer to lose the signal and it comes back faster.

Before when it would start to rain I would notice some pixelation.Signal strenght would be 50-60% The pixelation would increase in intensity as the rain would fall harder. Signal strenght would then be 45-50% Then I would lose signal altogether.

Now there is no pixelation and the signal holds on to 70-75% strenght where as before it would have hovered at 50-60%. This is with medium down pour. Of course when it gets heavy then it's lights out.

On a 6131 the signal strength on most transponders are at 100% with a few(6) in the high 90s

On a 3100 they are all at 100%

Wow no rain in Ottawa. Got 2-3 showers here. The signal lowers to 70% with a medium downpour. When it gets more intense BAM!! The signal is gone but little pixelation leading off to when I lose signal.

I also lost 10 minutes during the thunderstorms in TO as it affected the uplink center.

Glad to see my chum MCI back here in this thread.
