Does Shaw have any plans to offer live tv streaming to iPads similar to what I have seen on some U.S. cable company commercials?

LOL, I don't know how long you've been with Shaw, but don't hold your breath...
Don't get me wrong, I'd love it (4 iPads in the house). It's just that they're a little... uhm.... slow to implement these things. Still waiting for a way to program a PVR from a smartphone, which Optik TV offers since 2010? Not sure. Anyway, I hope I'm wring, but my prediction is 2017, if ever.

You may want to look at other options...I have a Slingbox HD and it works great, can program recordings on my iPhone and live stream to the iPad...the only thing is it ties up a portal/tuner.

I'd second the Slingbox suggestion. It's an excellent piece of technology, and works right now.

Shaw is working on it but I have no idea when it might be available. They may be waiting until their wifi network is more complete.

However, it sounds like a bit of a broken record to hear that Shaw is "working on something". How many times have we heard that before?

Fair enough.
Would you feel better if I said I had seen an example of what they are 'working on'?

I'll take smartphone capability first, most of the ipad apps you can only access in your house I think...
I could be wrong |

I can't think of any iPad app I have that only runs on a WiFi connection and not 3G. I'm sure some exist, but I can't think of any.

Shaw could re-brand and modify the Comcast app they have in the states since they use the same underlying hardware and software as Comcast.

^^^ This. On so many levels.
Comcast has MoCA "Whole home PVR service" through the DCX3400/3200 boxes (same boxes Shaw uses). Comcast has Caller ID to TV on Motorola DCT2500 (and later) boxes - the same boxes that Shaw uses. Comcast has web-based PVR control tools for Motorola DCT6400 (and later) boxes using the A28 guide - same software and hardware Shaw uses. All of this is using existing legacy Motorola hardware (except the MoCA uses DCX boxes), and all of this uses the same A28 guide that we currently have on our cable boxes, and all of this has been widely deployed by Comcast for at least 3 years. |
