What network does Chatr (or Rogers in general) use in the U.S. ?

When I was in the U.S. a few weeks back, I roamed on AT&T, but there was another one available, but I've forgotten who (T-Mobile?). I was in Atlanta when I made my first roaming call. Also, Fido originally roamed on T-Mobile, then known as Voicestream, as that company provided some of the original funding for Fido and was also a GSM network. |

It's possible that T-Mobile is available as well, but AT&T is their primary roaming partner, and has the stronger network anyway.

While Chatr charges 25cents/minute, what are some of the U.S. roaming fees with the Rogers & Fido plans( or maybe I don't want to know!)?

You don't want to know.
The roaming fees are obscene. On my recent trip to the U.S., I paid $23.75 for 40 minutes. If I hadn't paid for that before I left, I would have been hit with per minute costs of over $1, IIRC. |

I had the same plan last month as well. Without it, the roaming charges would be $1.45 per minute plus long distance charges on top of that!

There are no long distance charges when roaming.

When I am in the U.S. without a voice travel plan, I have been charged long distance on top of the roaming charges.

You should double check your bill. If you look at the roaming rates on the rogers website it clearly states that it is one rate for all calls to anywhere in the world while roaming. If you were charged long distance, I would dispute the Long Distance charges.
I've also roamed in the US and never purchase travel packs as I ignore my phone while travelling most of the time. The odd time I did use it to make calls, I've never been charged long distance. |

I stand corrected yyzlhr. You are correct - only the $1.45 roaming fee was charged! Thank you!

@ TorontoColin......not entirely correct. The phone will switch between AT&T and T-Mobile whichever tower signal is stronger. Was in the U.S. this past weekend and it stayed on AT&T while driving on Interstate 90 in NY state but switched over to T-Mobile just after entering PA.
