I think the push is over the next 45 days or so done one group at a time. A reboot is a part of the update but I'm not certain if the reboot happens right away or not. Don't wear out your power buttons trying, it's coming....

Sounds about right given that I was told everyone should have it by the end of May.

My PVR said there was an update available so I told it to install and now 2 hours later the PVR appears not to be working (lights on but TV says no signal) but the STB's are working.

brownstar, the screensaver was removed, is your PVR in standby perhaps? The update should complete within a few minutes.

It seems as though the PVR froze, as the STB's were working. My wife unplugged the PVR and powered it back up and its now working.....I'll check the version when I get home from work

For those who have upgraded, how's the menu/system responsiveness and black levels?

The update is being rolled out to only a portion of customers as of today. New groups will be added approx every 2 weeks for the next 10 weeks. This is to pace out any service calls from bricked boxes, etc. I'll try and post in this thread each time a new group is added.

The easiest way to tell if you got the update is if you have icons for the channels added over the last few months. There will be no green screen during standby, the stb will power off after 4 hours without a remote command, responsiveness improved in the aspect ratio submenu, and some other stuff as well that I can't remember offhand.

Still nothing in west Edmonton. What exactly are we going to see in this update... better picture ? more features ? less features? consistent audio levels ?

I would say the menu responsiveness is better. A couple of lags here and there but nowhere near as bad as before. I haven't noticed any features other than the new channel icons and no press OK screensaver when it's off. I did notice parental controls which I'm not sure if that was there before or not. As far as the picture goes I never really noticed the black level issues before. That being said I was watching something last night and thought the picture looked better than usual.

This update is primarily focused on bug fixes and doesn't have much in the way of new features. The most notable defect that is fixed in this client is the frequent loss of communication between the DVR and non-DVR STBs that caused your recording playback to stop, and your asset list to repopulate. Another client upgrade scheduled for later this year will have new features.

Some modification to client behaviours were less of a feature and more of an energy savings initiative (no screensaver, 4-hour system standby down from 24-hour). Also, a number performance improvements were included like faster aspect ratio browsing, the eight second wake delay after placing the STB into standby, etc.

Audio levels are not controlled by the provider but by the channels, I believe CRTC are looking into this when it comes to the commercials being way louder than the show.

On topic....I've got the upgrade now, much faster menu response, never really noticed any black issues, and its good to see all the channel icons. Now Telus, get us Space & Discovery HD

Glad to hear about the fix for the loss of communication between DVRs. That is a very annoying problem.

Not happy that the generally poor UI performance hasn't been addressed, nor the black level issue.

Not to be overly negative, but given the track record on upgrading firmware I am not holding my breath on seeing another upgrade/fix release this year.

brownstar is right when it comes to audio leveling, content providers don't want service providers to be modifying their streams so it's a difficult problem to address, and not related to the Mediaroom STB client.

While client tweaks can improve UI performance, the hardware is what it is. Just as with any other application, newer chipsets are where the significant performance improvements are realized.

When it comes to client releases, operators are somewhat limited by the timelines of Microsoft. In addition, each must go through extensive testing to ensure (as best as possible) that there is no regression, or new defects introduced.
