Just finished my update.

Only complaint so far... no more RSS feeds in mail... not enough to make me go back to Lion but still bothersome to me.

Haven't decided if I will do my wife's yet.

My parents just got a new MBP last month so I may end up upgrading theirs. Things are still very new to them so they likely won't notice any of the new tweaks and the further integration with iOS will be nice for them.

Yawn. Someone remind what this upgrade is supposed to do?

I see no reason to upgrade at this point but thats just me. I have no interest in the notification and social integration updates. I run Plex through out my house and really do not want to mess with that either. Not sure if my version of plex works with Mountain Lion. Even for $20 I am going to hold off.

I too run Plex from my mini and I was anxious to get this new version. Maybe it's just me, but I never felt Lion was very reliable. I upgraded my mini and used Plex for about an hour yesterday with no issues at all.

It was also reported the Mountain Lion fixes the issue with sound over HDMI introduced by 10.7.4, so for anyone with this scenario, the upgrade has at least one "pro". I run my audio over TOSLINK so I can't comment on it.

All the above is for the latest version of PMS and PMC, not sure what version you're running.

The iOS integration is very nice if you have any of those devices.

Would you upgrade if it was free? My folks qualified for the free upgrade and much to my surprise they are doing it on their own. This is not something they would have even considered doing on their older non mac computer(s).

Also, maybe it's just in my head but the OS also seems a bit zippier to me on my mid 2010 MBP.

Having already rolled back a Macbook to Snow Leopard from Lion I really need to have some solid technical understanding of why Mountain Lion would be a "must have" (excluding PR and tech journalist cheerleading). If there are compelling positives I will plan the upgrade.

From what I see, having upgraded for $40 (server version):
  1. If you have already evolved to the iPad, no compelling reason to upgrade.
  2. If you you have started the evolution to post-PC, it is marginally worthwhile for the iCloud integration.
  3. If you plan on staying with a PC as long as possible, no reason to upgrade

Well, I am so glad that I read some of the Apple forums before I purchased Mountain Lion.

One of the biggest features, IMO, was the mirroring with my ATV. Seems like anything older than 2011 products will not feature mirroring. People are VERY angry with Apple right now, because this was never mentioned in any of the documentation.

For the first time, I feel very deceived by Apple and if I did upgrade, I would (like so many others) be demanding a refund because the product does not work as described.

Yeah, from what I hear the AirPlay mirroring functionality is what everyone was eagerly waiting for in this release. Sucks if you have older hardware though. But, hey, that's an Apple thing.

Really? Every preview/review I read that covered mirroring with more than one sentence mentioned this fact.

The requirements were indeed in the app description, however, in every video or article that I saw building the hype of ML, I never saw one item that showed you would need a different model mac than those listed to run ML itself. And if you do a quick search, you will see hundreds, if not thousands, of others who did not know about the hardware issues.

This was a huge disaster for Apple, I think. It is only a guise to get people to purchase the most recent models in order to get the most hyped feature of the new OS.

I would rather have software that runs well, even if it must be run on newer more capable hardware, rather than have some half baked software that chokes and sputters just so that it can run on an old machine. Apple generally isn't too concerned about backwards compatibility when it comes to their advancements.

as I have several programs that won't run on a MAC, (Quicken, ActiveTrader) I use VMWare Fusion 3.x to run Windows 7. Fusion 3.x which will not run on Mountain Lion.
The upgrade to 4.x is about $60.
My iMac is also old enough that the upgrade after Mountain Lion will not run on my existing iMac.
I am at a crossroad trying to figure out what platform(s) make sense.

The two features that I was interested in was AirPlay mirroring and PowerNap. Neither works on my 2008 MacBook Pro.
