Both Space and Discovery are owned by Bell and perhaps Telus have a "relationship" with Bell due to their sharing of distribution network and STBs (Telus Sat).

Try walking into a car dealership and proclaim "this is the car I MUST own," then see if you get any deals. Then try pretending like you have other options, and are prepared to walk out. You'll get a better deal in the latter scenario - its all part of negotiating, and proclaiming you're going to have something before a deal is done isn't a good negotiating tactic at all.
